All food consists of chemicals, I was being a smart ass. Lettuce is a collection of chemical bonds, as are carrots, beef, chicken, etc.

Yep, not ALL chemicals are harmful, but you should try to avoids ones like sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid, they are a couple of the worst on the other hand citric acid and lactic acid are harmless.

Just look at what has happened in Madagascar, it will also happen in most of Africa also. Countries are buying farmland for themselves, not the locals. As for chemicals in the soil, we cannot feed our world without them now.

The reason Egypt cannot produce grain like they used to is when President Nassar built the Aswan Dam their once fertile Nile flood plain just reverted to desert. As for so many other countries in worse shape, I think I answered that question before: "Give them suitcases so they can pack up and move" to more fertile areas.

That's malarky. There is more than enough food for all. IF you can afford it.

Food is always available for those who have money, and the poor used to be able to get minimal and today with no jobs, they get nothing. As I said, time for Africans to migrate to where they can produce food. The boundaries created by European nations just never worked for their cultures.

Many of the posts above say that the third world countries are fully responsible for creating starvation within their borders. Others argue that Wall Street has some role in this unhappy matter:

The Food Bubble: How Wall Street Starved Millions and Got Away With It

By the way, did anyone answer the question about why the focus here on Egypt when so many other countries are in far worse shape?

The article I originally posted from the Huffington Post discussed Egypt.

Trying to get third world countries (not just Egypt) to refrom their economies is probably similiar to getting aboriginals in Canada off the racist treaty process and onto the mixed market system of private property rights and equal rights for all. No chance at all really, no political will to get them to join mainstream society and economy. They will live with their dirty water and appalling educations systems for decades and we'll all believe things are getting better as FAS becomes more common.

What we can afford in Canada, the west isn't always ready to pony up for Africa however. Let the Kielburger brothers and their supporters pay for basketcases like Egypt and Haiti, not taxpayers.

In this article it states that Canada is one of only 24 net food exporters in the world. As far as I know, there is only one in Africa, South Africa, and that is because of European farmers. You've got to wonder about people who grow so little food.

Africa could feed the entire world without cutting down a tree but mineral/resource wars get in the way all the time not money.

Libya HAD the capacity to feed all of Europe it's fruit and veg but I think we've blown that flying irrigation system to bits because we have too much damn money invested in another desert nation that has ZERO natural resources.
