Just to provoke thought:
Not everyone sought to drool idiotically at the feet of US drama empress Oprah Winfrey. Yes, she has contributed much good in the world but her endless, bottomless need for attention prevented some of us from viewing her programme. She was the top host for cutting off her guests in mid-sentence and bringing the subject back to herself and her personal interests and projects.
Oprah's constant yo-yo dieting inspired some women to lose extra weight (and gain it back eventually) and others' to give up trying. The truth is that Winfrey had expensive personal trainers who trained her in her own home gym, home chefs, nutritionists and other well-paid folk to assist her in weight loss. However, she was unable to stop eating because she is a uncontrollable food-addict. Do you think the world grew weary of her showing off her new small size only to add 100 pounds to it after only 6 months over and over again? What kind of message did this give to children, youths and to those adults who could not afford the personal trainers, nutritionists and advisors that forced her to trim down periodically?
She knows how to make money and is completely dedicated to it which makes her a capitalist success story. Fortunately she does share some of this wealth.
I never quite knew what to think about dear Oprah for I could not watch her talk show so I suppose I am not entitled to an opinion.
According to personal accounts Oprah was raised by her grandmother on a farm for the first 6 years; after that she was raised in a few different cities with many opportunities to excel.

From a dirt poor farm in Mississippi to a Gold Coast Chicago penthouse, Oprah Winfrey worked hard, took risks and built a media empire. Her brand is instantly recognizable. She’s a businesswoman par excellence, and a generous philanthropist.
The end of the “Oprah Winfrey Show” this week after 25 years is cause for misty retrospectives and heartfelt celebrity tributes. It’s also cause for hoping her new OWN network dies on the vine and we never hear from her again.
Why? Because Oprah’s only-in-America success has come at the expense of American culture. Because she’s a garden variety show-biz liberal with a giant megaphone. And because a healthy society should eventually recognize emotional voyeurism and personal-pain pornography for what they are, and marginalize them.
It’s easy to forget that in the 1980s and early 1990s Oprah was, in the words of Penn State Professor Vicki Abt, the “Queen of Trash.” With its parade of freaks, miscreants and hapless victims baited and confronting each other on-camera, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” was indistinguishable from the offerings of Geraldo, Sally Jessie Rafael or Ricki Lake. Topics in those days ran from satanic worship to “families who interbreed” to “when the wife meets the other woman.”
