Every party has a leader that has not been able to convince the voters that he is a good choice to head a majority gov't.
Both the cons and the libs have too much blood on their hands and it's coming back to bite them both in the ass.
So now it need to be dropped eh?
You're right, Harper is embarressing himself on the matter now.
He should focus more more on why his government was found in contempt of parliment, an historic first in the commonwealth.
Probably the same reason Clinton was impeached. Politicians are becoming drama queens and increasingly childish. They play these silly games because, unfortunately, too many people take this kind of nonsense seriously.

No politiciann deserves a first chance under the current structure let alone a second one.

Do you know of a politician who isn't a liar? Since that is a common denominator it is hardly a good reason for not voting for anyone UNLESS you decide to vote for none of them for the same reason. As long as I'm convinced I'll pay less taxes under Harper than I would under anyone else I'll seriously consider voting for him. I did the exercise with "votecompass" which indicates I should vote for Harper.
What about the other stuff government wastes money on? That's okay?

I'll pay more to lower the deficit, lower the debt, improve healthcare, improve education, improve access to post secondary education, investment in the enviroment, infastructure improvements, getting the mentally ill off the street, training programs for the unemployed and public transit improvments.
They could save money by getting rid of lazy overpaid public employees and open future union contracts to the private sector for competition.
The military is not an area of expertise of mine, but from what I can gather unless we expect Uncle
Sam to fight all our battles for us we do need to beef up the military. As far as paying more taxes for any reason I'm not for it - the money is better in my pockets as I don't squander it the way they do. In most cases when I spend money I try to see it goes to reputable people for good products- that way I support workers, not people who refuse to work. I certainly hope that the likes of those who hoisted this $300 thousand charade on us will NEVER get the opportunity to spend one nickel of my money.

We have a small efficient military that is called upon to support our Nato and UN commitments, as well as deal with domestic emergency..

When the Ice Storms happened in Quebec the unit I served with had to go into panic mode because half our equipment was in disrepair due to Liberal cut backs. When the Red River swelled in Winnipeg same deal.
You knuckleheads have no problem calling for the military when you need them, you just don't want to flip the bill. You're like the guy who has no problem drinking pichers of beer, but you run for the can when it's your turn to buy a round.

Red River was an eye-opener. I lived on the 17 stretch. A couple of days after the traffic jam started, you could almost walk to Sturgeon Falls on broken-down green trucks
I've personally never seen a need for them unless it's for localized, reasonable assignments so you can count me out of the knucklehead camp, thanks. And considering they're the biggest expense for our unnecessary foreign interventions, then we could be saving those dollars to cover other things - most of which Avro has mentioned already.
Unfortunately, the public - as Toronto has so vividly exhibited in their most recent election - can been deluded by idealistic and frankly, utopian advertising into believing that taxes are inherently bad. The real problem is where that tax money goes. And the solution to that problem is transparency.
But it takes an extra two steps of thought before the general public really considers where the money needs to go after it exits their pockets. Seems a bit disingenuous to want to live in a community where you give nothing back and expect everyone to fend for themselves. Most successful nations actually evolved from the natural selection bit, but we're digressing further behind now.
