If someone tells you what they think regardless of it being bad or not, do you take it seriously.

Say for example

My friend hates the world and i told him he needs to calm down and relax. He gets angrier and annoyed and asks me to leave. He cant handle straight talk in my opinion

If my friend tells me im a hyper lunatic and i listen to him and realize. Whoa iam a hyper lunatic what can i do to improve myself? Thats being able to take straight talk.

Would you agree with this? And how would you react, if someone told you want they think of you?

I feel like that chili kid, with these what do you think threads. Whoa

There is no way for anybody to know you. Their opinions of you are not who you are. Take everything that people say about you with a pound of salt because they can only see you through the filters of their own bias. Perhaps they are just dodging their own bullet by putting their own judgments of themselves onto you.

I would not react to such opinions but mull them over a while and see if they fit. If not, it is their problem.

Actually you don't even need a dictionary............

Just google 'ive' and it will ask you........"Did you mean I've?"

Or google 'powty' and it will ask you.........."Did you mean pouty"??

The straight talk being that one should check one's spelling if one doesn't want to be classed as unschooled, or retarded. Or both.

Damn condescending of me, eh wot?

It isn't important to get your message across but in some circumstances, it does lend credibility to a position as it does reflect ones level of education.

Spelling is not necessary to get a point across but does not necessarily reflect level of education. I dropped out of high school but you'll rarely find a misspelled word in my posts. This is simply because I take measures to learn to spell words correctly and I use firefox which has a built in spell checker. So therefore bad spelling could reflect on ones actual intelligence or even just expose the fact they are lazy and choose to spread their careless ignorance everywhere they go.
I think, due to the fact that I don't see any misspelled word in Johnny's posts as a rule seeing as he has an excuse to make such mistakes, just reinforces the fact that an education does not a smart person make.

Sorry for the side track Johnnny, but you can tell me straight how that makes you feel. I can deal. ;}

First of all there are 7 different types of intelligence, spelling is probably only included in one or two of them. Seeing an occasional difficult word misspelled doesn't bother me too much (I can't spell a lot of them myself) but to continuously see "loose" for "lose" and "New Westminister" for "New Westminster" and "receive" continuously misspelled irks the hell out of me.

??????????? I know there are academic, mechanical, musical and athletic, can't think of the rest off hand.

And then there is reality. Those are all constructs of people with nothing better to do then degrade people according to standards they arbitrarily make up to create a job for themselves..

I disagree- I knew a guy who couldn't spell 6 words and his grammar was atrocious when it wasn't vulgar, but he had mechanical abilities you wouldn't believe, could take an engine apart repair it and put it back together in the dark. You NEVER want to take someone else's intelligence lightly as it can backfire and make you look like the real dummy. (or is it dumby?)

Thats true, on here you guys get the message when i forget letters or get them backwards or push two keys at the same time, and dont bother checking it over if im in a rush.

When i write technical reports though i do take the time to make sure everything is proper. And i write at least one a month.

But for the most part my **** is spelled right

This is a great example.

People think because im hyper im retarded :).... But im actually the most well versed in geology in my company. Theres only one guy who knows more than me and he has a Masters, while i just have two technologist diplomas and some university. When were in the feild people bring rocks to me to ask what they are and ive actually had mock lessons at field camps, where i explained the processes of geology to them.

People who have done great in School or were raised to very high standards will hold peoples faults against them from what i noticed. Last year and the year before in University the other kids hated me with a passion because i could get 100% in my geology classes, complete them in a 1/4 amount of time while high on the wacky tabacky. The OGS offered me a summer job and i never even applied to them lol

You're right on Johnny, while book learning may make you intelligent, LACK of life experiences will make you ignorant. One of the most "intelligent" people I knew was the ignorantest S.O.B. you could ever meet. (most ignorant might be better) LOL

I wouldn't dare take anyone's intelligence for anything other than what it is which, as I can infer from your post, could be deceivingly high.
I would guess your friend can't spell or use grammar correctly because he found it easier to wrench a car or whatever back in school days so his education suffered in the academic department. Most likely he could have learned to spell and write had he wanted to.

Yep, people excel in the areas they are interested in. Some excel in areas they are not because it's a prerequisite to better things they want. Some people don't know how to study effectively (of which I'm probably one) There are other factors that contribute to intelligence- I've never regarded myself as being exceptionally intelligent but one asset I had as a young person was an almost flawless memory, now I can't remember what I did two days ago LOL As far as I'm concerned wisdom is much more important than intellect.
