I hope you're not suggesting that because the news has volunteered to widely spew the "leaks" out that we now know anything of importance. Since when has news been handled by the news? As long as the light unto the world is not hurt by the leaks it's OK.

Information is only important because of what you do with it. So I wouldn't say the leaks are important because we now know about them. What I am asking is, are all these media outlets simply making matters worse in the distribution of the information so widely and are they guilty of some level of treason as well? I noticed the Toronto Star posted a link to the Wikileaks new site.

Re: Of wikileaks, julian assange, and assassination threat-as-joke of tom flanagan an

Explain how it is tabloid journalism. Just in your opinon or in reality? I remember a time when it was the journalists wet dream to get a story like this. These days they just read a press release and ask no real questions.

Who has been harmed? Stuck pigs or real innocents?

Journalism as whole has stooped to a definite low. These gotcha moments remind me of TMZ or National Enquirer.

I suppose when it runs contrary to your political belief system it is easy to side with Wiki Leaks when they do this. If you think American's are asshole bullies or Jews are the new evil perhaps the wiki leaks action looks like just desserts.

I myself am a pragmatist and I see no use for these cables other than to damage world relations for the reward of advertising money. I remember a time when journalists had integrity and simply did not run a story for the gotcha moment. In fact some of them actually considered the consequences of their actions.

As to your second question. That is yet to be seen. If an Iranian terrorist group detonates a bomb on Saudi soil for the cable that urged the West to deal with Iran's nuclear aspiration would you say that no one was harmed?

Just jokin' sheesh!
Reminds me of a bully actually. The only time it's a joke is when it's being used against you.

A pitifully poor joke!

How times have changed, here is a accused rapist (some of you say not a bad crime today) and a thief/extortionist. Julian has said that your favorite two years ago Hillary Clinton resign because of what is in these so called papers.. What does he or even you think goes on in the diplomatic world, from the comments some have posted very little. This world we live in will never have a fairy tale ending, at least not in the next 200 years. By the way, anyone ever see these papers?

Flanagan may have been "joking" but it was not "comedy." And, this type of public rhetoric simply encourages the less stable. That's why saying what Flanagan did , and unlike Flanagan, actually meaning it, is stepping over a line.

Maybe we should expect a higher level of professionalism and decorum from our government and those who work in it?

Fake outrage. When on either side of the political it is still fake outrage. And it's dishonest.

Not even that, I'm saying that those quoted in the cables should take greater care in what they say.

On that note I wholeheartedly agree, but...... Showza Unf isn't there always a but? :)

You know as well as I do that on the level of a workplace this sort of thing is the norm. Now before you revert to this is not a workplace go back to the beginning and note where I said I agree wholeheartedly with, but....;-)

It's an institution right? These are high ranking jobs and the pay and perks are exorbitant for a reason. We should be able to expect that they can work at that level of professionalism. But if we choose to accept less then less we shall receive.

There have been a large number of Wikileaks threads cropping up lately, and it has been the consensus of the Mods to merge them all into one thread. Any future posts about this topic should be placed here. Thank you.

Excellent!

I'd wondered when the inevitable would finally happen.

Hu Jintao, "Kim, You Can't Even Feed 20 Million People?"

Hu Jintao criticized Kim Jung-il, "Why can't he feed the two thousand milion starving north koreans".

lately, Wikileaks disclosed on American diplomatic cable.

There are many issues listed on it . But among them, the issue that china blame North korea attracts attention.

According to the disclosed fact, China is critical of North korea now.

China criticized that North korea is like a spoiled child who want to draw attention by missile testing.

when president Hu jin tao met Kim jung-il in Changchun last august, China also blamed North korea for why they can't feed two thousand milion residents not even thirteen billion chinese starve.

and then, China rejected their requests that include the latest-model battle plane and thirty billion dollars economic cooperation and the annual support of the million tons of crude oil and the five hundred thousand tons of rice.

How stuffy they feel, even china called as the brother nation of north korea told like that.

North korea was criticized by china but kim jung il & kim jung eun don't still understand current situation.

North korea already attacked yeounpyung-do and they gave south korea a strict warning of the attack on Gyeong gi-do before the new year.

they might want to get something from ohter countries by using cunning threats. haha.

but sorry to them, North korea barked up the worng tree. time passed and also trend changed.

now is not the past that kind of threats were accepted. they sould be aware of the fact that they can get nothing with threats.

52 years in prison sounds about right......

WikiLeaks suspect thought actions might ‘actually change something’ - The Globe and Mail

Yesterday, Wikileaks published a worldwide list of potential targets for our enemies.....many of them in Canada

Today, Wikileaks published info about NATO planning the defense of the Baltic states if Russia goes rogue, thus destablilizing our relationship with that nation.

Tomorrow?

And people wonder why we think Assange should be brought to heel, either imprisoned (right beside his buddy above) or shot dead..

Assange under arrest.....to heck with Sweden......can the USA extradite him??

A lovely two man cell for these dudes.......

The rapist has been arrested. LONDON – WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange has told a London court he will fight extradition to Sweden.
The 39-year-old Australian was appearing before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. He was asked whether he understood that he could consent to be extradited to Sweden, where he faces allegations of sex crimes.

Contributing to the slander campaign against Assange?

The charges are ridiculous. The original charges were dropped because the prosecutor felt they had no chance of resulting in a conviction, since everyone involved agreed the sex was consensual. The dispute is whether or not they agreed to sex without a condom. The charges were later revived and enhanced after he released the latest round of wikileaks. If this was anyone else, the charges would not have been revived and the chances of conviction would be near zero.

Assange's case proves that f you piss off powerful people, your life will come under the microscope. You, your family, friends and associates will be harassed and discredited. Powerful people will call for your assassination and you will be the subject of illegal actions without any recourse to the legal system.

I disagree with powerful people being able to use the legal system to harass people.

BTW, Assange's publication of leaked classified docs does not violate any laws in the US or elsewhere. He is not in the US, nor is he an American citizen. The criminal may be whoever released the classified documents. If that person was a disgruntled American citizen, that person broke the law. If the source was an agent of hostile foreign government, then no law was broken and this is a diplomatic issue.
