Re: Of wikileaks, julian assange, and assassination threat-as-joke of tom flanagan an

Quote:
...WikiLeaks argues that revealing details of companies and governments behaving badly, no matter how the information is obtained, is good for democracy. Founder Julian Assange told Forbes magazine that the number of leaks his site got had been increasing “exponentially” as the site got more publicity. He said it sometimes numbered in the thousands a day.
Assange added that half the unpublished material his organisation had received was about the private sector, including a “mega-leak” involving a bank. He would not name the bank, but he said last year in an interview with Computerworld that he had several gigabytes of data from a Bank of America executive’s hard drive.
Assange said that WikiLeaks had “lots” of information on BP, which was under fire for the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill. He said his organisation was trying to figure out if its information on BP was unique.
WikiLeaks previously published confidential documents from the Swiss bank Julius Baer and the Kaupthing Bank in Iceland...

If people want to be honest and release information that the public is being ****ed over then let them be honest no matter how loud a stuck pigs squeals it is still just a pig.

Make your point. Back it up with facts. Your comment is little more than name calling.

I think the US has a lot of disgruntled people in government and industry.

If you think my pointing out your being naive is name calling then report the post. Explaining why you are naive is evident in the post you made about Wiki Leaks being the new age of information gathering.

Having followed your other link in that other thread has solidified my conviction that you really should find a hobbie that doesn't involve the Middle East or Alternative News Gathering.

Cheers

Re: Of wikileaks, julian assange, and assassination threat-as-joke of tom flanagan an

On the question of WikiLeaks (which I have been more than happy, until this point, to feverishly avoid), I am of the view that there are legitimate reasons for the State to keep secrets from its citizens, for reasons of national security. This is the driving rationale behind the Security of Information Act (formerly the Official Secrets Act) in Canada. This Act, though, provides that breaches of such security can be defended where it is proven that it can be established to have been "in the public interest" (as per s. 15(1)). This has no bearing of course, in relation to the work of WikiLeaks, but it is a judicial principle to keep in mind.

Should be pretty obvious that the leaks are in the interest of the public and particularly to assert a reasonable position on transparency.

It is tabloid style internet journalism. Nothing more.

Yes, the New York Times and The Guardian are tabloid style internet journalism. Please.

No I didn't say that. I said Wiki Leaks is tabloid style journalism, if I was referring to who picked up the websites leaks I'd be naming more than two papers. Please yourself.

Explain how it is tabloid journalism. Just in your opinon or in reality? I remember a time when it was the journalists wet dream to get a story like this. These days they just read a press release and ask no real questions.

Who has been harmed? Stuck pigs or real innocents?

'' Last I recall, the Communists are well known for butchering children, the elderly, et al.''

See my earlier posts on children killed through Bush's bombings in Iraq.

Moderator's Edit: Picture of naked child removed. Regardless of the context we don't need to see that sort of thing here.

''Death to Assange. The quicker the better.''

That sure sounds like terrorism to me.

WikiLeaks : Hu Jintao, "Kim, You Can't Even Feed 20 Million People?"

A while ago, Wikileaks disclosed US diplomatic cables.
There were many interesting topics that were covered by these documents, but one criticizing North Korea caught my attention.
According to Wikileaks, it seems like China is not so friendly towards North Korea after all.
China called North Korea a "crying baby trying to get US' attention" and last August, Chinese prime minister Hu Jintao rebuked Kim Jong-il, saying "1.3 billion Chinese people aren't starving but you can't even feed 20 million". Along with this remark, Hu refused North Korea's request of new airplane fighters, a 30 billion dollar economic deal, and an annual supply of 500 thousand tons of rice and 1 million tons of crude oil.
I can't imagine how frustrated China must have been to criticize its closest ally so badly.
However, Kim Jong-il and Kim Jong-un are still not getting their acts together and threatening to attack South Korea again before the New Year's.
They're probably trying to rip off South Korea again with these empty threats.
It's not even funny...
But such threats are useless nowadays.
North Korea should catch on to this quickly or they'll starve to death soon.

Just jokin' sheesh!
Reminds me of a bully actually. The only time it's a joke is when it's being used against you.

Soon China will simply take North Korea by invasion and South Korea in a financial bail out.

Isn't it just as bad to be reposting all the leaks? I mean if it wasn't for the news who the hell would know?

I hope you're not suggesting that because the news has volunteered to widely spew the "leaks" out that we now know anything of importance. Since when has news been handled by the news? As long as the light unto the world is not hurt by the leaks it's OK.

Re: The rape case against Wikileaks' Julian Assange

Do you support going after Assange's lawyers too? How about his children?

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says his life is threatened | The Daily Telegraph

That is not new news that was a given from the first time he gave documents to press. What is surprising is that he is still free walking around. I have not forgotten about Army Pfc Bradley Manning either, just cannot figure out how a Pfc has access and was able to steal so much information. (he is under lock and key by the way)
