I grew up with "Country and Western" - that was dropped about the early 80s. I suppose "western" never really made sense as the H.Q. was Nashville. Of course in the early days a lot of it was focussed on gunslingers.

maybe just a connection to the old west.

I detest buck ownens, always have, horrible voice.

No, Buck didn't have a particularly good voice, but the lyrics and rhythm were generally good. That's why I was surprised that he rated so high on that list one member posted the other day. By the same token Ernie Tubb had good songs but not a particularly good voice.

but at least ernest tubb had a pleasant way about his style, and a deeper tone, buck owens sounded
like he was shouting and it was very unpleasant.
