ok I did a quick comparison

I compared a US Ford Taurus vs a Canadian Ford Taurus..

the US one was $25,000+ and the Canadian was $27,000+

both had 3,000 down at 0% and 48 months

the American car was $480 a mth. the Canadian was $512

this is before tax too because they don't put that in the quote.

So what is your problem with it?

You give them a down payment and they set up a nice 48 month low payment and low interest loan to sell a car off their lot.

What's the big deal?

I actually got one of those sweet loans recently myself! Only I pay $159 per month because of the amount of money I put down.

You see, both countries have their plusses and negatives.

the problem I have is why do americans get to have these sweet deals and lower prices and lower payments??

and we don't

Simply because we're Americans and America is much better place to live.

I'm kidding with you...

Most likely it is because the tax rate. Perhaps some of my Canadian pals can help me out on that because I do not know. If I had to guess I'd say the tax rate.

Wolf? CDN? Any idea?

Agreed. If I were ever forced to leave Canada, I would most undoubtedly end up in New Orleans. IMHO, nowhere else will you find the epitome of American hospitality and generosity then the Big Easy.

For a visit, definitely, to live nah, probably Washington, Oregon, Nevada or Idaho.

WY would be my first choice. Perhaps an uncrowded spot in CO or OR.

This thread is getting ridiculous, for all intents & purposes the two countries are in a dead heat and among the top in the world and we should just take pleasure from that and quit bickering. Of course Canadians favour Canada and the Yanks favour the U.S. - that is natural and how it should be.:smile:
Not me. I just like Turtle Island. Borders are stupid because people are people.

get over it.

It's just my opinion that I believe that Canada is a better place to live than the USA imo.

well ok you want comparison?

we have better Health Care
we have better Education for our Children
we have a better fresh water supply
we Don't have the 2nd amendment (thank god!)
we don't have Capital Punishment..
We don't allow people who can't afford to buy a House, BUY a house
Our banks don't go into major Bankcruptcy
we don't spend money on things foolishly and so willingly
The first one that pops into mind addresses the last comment about spending willingly and stupidly: 2 words; firearms registry.
The rest is also easy to take apart.

I have seen numerous TV commercials for American Car dealers.. who have their cars with their 48 month deals and their nice low payments!

and yes that's with down payments, etc.

but still.. there is no way you can get that sort of low payment up here for that sort of term.
.... unless you have a whopper of a down payment.

the problem I have is why do americans get to have these sweet deals and lower prices and lower payments??

and we don't
Because Canuckville is a far better place to live, remember?

Taxes on a new vehicle in BC:
12% with this HST crap. There are also a battery tax and a tire tax because the gov't assumes you don't have any use for them after they are worn out. Also, there's an A/C levy because of the coolants.

WY would be my first choice. .

I can relate to that but living at 7000' elevation may be a bit much for an old codger. I was through Rawlins Wy about Oct. 15, 1968 - it was below freezing and snowing.:lol: I remember it well, we were headed for Yellowstone and a gas station attendent strongly advised us to forget it, which we probably wisely did.:smile:

That's all you get in a troll topic.
It wasn't a troll topic. It was meant to be the counter point to all the anti Americanism here at CC. Hence why I've supplied copious articles on the topic. Provided some examples of the similarities in abhorrent behavior. Or otherwise used some logic to show my case.

If I was simply trolling, I would have just called the anti American-ists morons and left it at that.

And other then that, there was nothing of any substance to reply toin your posts, so you pretty much got all your post deserved there.

Here is a example of what your saying, this is great for someone wanting a car.
Mazda Summer sale.
2010 CX-9

  • Starting at $28,805*
  • Up to 22 mpg†
  • Highest IIHS frontal offset and side-impact crash test safety rating
0.0% APR for up to 60 months PLUS no monthly payment for 90 days‡

MazdaUSA > Error

With error, seems to work.

PS: Canada has taxes we do not have, and they are higher.

In no way are we better than Americans. We do suffer the same faults as our nieghbors. When we are accused by Americans we are just as harsh in our defense and counter attacks. Maybe it is a good thing we are not as armed . ( for those that like to read things in between the lines of things that aren't there....that was a joke ;) ).

Just discussing of our own issues here (Canadian ) we see alot of biggotry, between ourselves, between the provinces based on bits of informations , or experiences or what ever. How can we think we are anybetter than anyone else?

It seems to be if your a Canadaian , you complain about the weather, the hockey scores, government taxes and what Americans are doing and saying .

I have said my **** about Americans in the past, sometimes it was reinforced and sometimes it wasn't . It would be foolish to think in absolutes.

I think I haven't given some of the carpenters I've known, enough credit over the years.

You know Jesus was a carpenter too?

EB, you are IMHO, a model example of the positive and complimentary side of this statement...

"A wise man speaks because he has something to say, a fool, because he has to say something"

Bear don't give me too much credit.

I have been very much at part of the bigotry mud slinging too. It would be very easy to talk in general about others and forget what I have said . Oh umm carpenters are probably just as bad as you think they are hahaha. You should hear the sexist jokes we say hahaha.

I have lots of foolish things to say and I need to get them out of the way too hahahahaha

Leave some credit for yourself Bear for starting this discussion. We as Canadians do seem to be as humble as we used to be know for.

I know in the past you were quite the chatter box of flirtatiousness. But for some time now, you've been pretty quiet and when you decide to speak, you say some pretty thought provoking things. Not that you didn't do that in the past from time to time, though.

I have to admit, perhaps based on a tradesman competitiveness or something, I've not always thought carpenters were very deep. You helped change that perception. Kind of like some Christians have helped me recognize that not all Christians are bad.

Bear I don't think you should associate me with my trade in general. Like I do with Engineers hahaha, see I am not any better hahaha

To be honest, I seem to have my fill of disscussions that are pages and pages of mud slinging and getting the better rebuttal . It just seems to get no where. It used to be fun to be apart and watch , but that's gone too.
Bear , in nearly the four years you have known me ......I think I'm getting old :(
Probably getting tired of myself .

You and I have always had that feeling about engineers in common, lmao!!! As soon as I see one that shatters our image of them, I'll let you know.

No more Ireland D: lol USA
Definitely glad this ended so well, lol. Well, as far as arguments go, considering it was really heating up on page 2 :p

I'm American myself, but would like to attend a Canadian University for my Master's under a Fulbright scholarship - and since they're all over the idea of creating a sense of friendship between Canada and the USA, they expect us to be the best of ambassadors.

That said, I must say that were the thread vice versa, I think I'd have to do as the OP did and call out Americans on their ignorance. Not only that but the blatant (and very misplaced, imo) arrogance that arises at times. I can't count the number of occasions on which I've been asked by an acquaintance 'why would you ever consider settling down in Canada?'

He also thinks I'm Anti-American for being in Ireland at the moment, having wanted to live in Canada for years and for saying 'I can't bring myself to stay in the US unless something drastic changes for the better" (albeit, he's army-crazy and thinks we're justified in the war too -.-). While he's unable to acknowledge it, I certainly will: The US is in shambles at the moment, especially regarding the government. Though that's a whale of a problem in and of itself.

I'm not Anti-American at all, I'm simply unwilling to become complacent enough to accept degeneration without becoming upset. But the fact of the matter is exactly as others have said, it seems - there are pros and cons to both places. Above all, in appreciation to the OP, there seems to be a great deal of goodness in the fact that there are those capable of pointing out the flaws within their native country. Regardless of the upset or bickering it may cause, it's so essential to the growth of a country for the better - so the fact that this thread exists at all and that the topic was presented with such eloquence, logic and obvious research towards backing it up, only points out that there's more good growth for the country to come.

On youtube, for one of the universities I was doing research on (Memorial University), there's a clip in which one of the international students says, "Canada has exceeded my wildest expectations, and you guys, Canadians, have a lot to be proud of"

Personally, I can't help but agree with that sentiment.
