I'm gonna have to back out of this thread - defending news outlets either electronic or print isn't my idea of a fun day off.

Appreciate all the discussion however and hope my fears will never be realized. We all have our opinions and what attracts our attention and perhaps in a few days when the news fleshes out I will be more relieved as to the future of NASA. Perhaps sanity will prevail.

I hope my fears will never be realized.
If they do not like the links and say so - Ignore them.

Curiosity, about 90% of what is published on the internet is pure junk. That is why it s important to refer to a reputable, respectable publication. You would never see me quote extremists websites, of the left or the right.

When a website has reputation for not being objective, then anything it says is suspect, unless confirmed by a reputable website. But then why not quote the reputable website directly, and leave out the disreputable one?

It is always important to consider the source of any information. Would you believe anything said on a Nazi, KKK or Al Qaeda website?

And again, for the life of me I don't see what is wrong with cooperating with Muslim countries in respect to space program.

I had no problem with the source, my problem was specifically about the facts surrounding the US space program that the source reported on. It lacked context, as in what had been NASA policy before Obama even had it on his desk. Rocket programs are notoriously expensive, rarely on time, and rarely on cost. Private enterprise seems to do a better job than government. That's a plus in Obama's plan, and I find it contradictory for the conservative budget hawks to all of a sudden reverse their position on budgetary prudence...

So, that begs the question of why I should be ignored. It's not like I said the link was crap without looking at it, because it was from a specific media group...

What's the world coming to? I have my media and anything that doesn't fit my view should be ignored? Is that what's going on here?

No your opinion is valued - I did not even check the stories myself - Curiosity felt she had to defend links she posted - and did not want to get into a peeing contest - I can understand that - Also i do not belive her comments were even directed at you. Does that clarify what I posted??

Well I had indicated that I had an issue with one of them, and you referred to "they" that did not like the links.

Anyways, I think it's the media making a mountain out of a molehill. It seems to me that the direction media is moving towards is either spineless middle-ground reporting, or partisan hackery. Perhaps that is why conventional media are dropping to the way-side, though I also notice that people seem to be replacing conventional media with blogs, which can be just as partisan...

At one time I thought about pursuing a career as a journalist, a science journalist. But I don't think the media climate is friendly towards what used to be good standard investigative journalism. Probably safer to just stick with the science :D

I used "they" as I had seen YJ & SJP - I did not read the articles - That is why i used they - No offense was intended - also if someone does not reply to a direct question as SJP has a distinct habit of doing i try to not let it bother me - When he does not answer a direct question - I know he is in all likelihood agreeing with me -not always - but generally - As in the question I posed on what his opinion of Igg's comments in China were - He cannot defend them - so he does not answer.

I asked for Curiosity to continue in the thread - She also lives in the US and brings a perspective that we do not have - Being on the ground - talking to people - hearing what they say - the impacts of various issues on the different people. We do not have that and I consider that to be of immense value. It is in your face every day, so that is something we all need to hear about and from. Whteher you agree or not with the opinion - Also i do not think that Curiosity wants or needs to get into a heated discussion.

Does that make sense to you??

Yes that makes sense. Sorry to jump the gun. I don't think it was headed towards a heated discussion though. I hope she does come back to this thread, I enjoy her ability to assimilate new information. She often asks questions in return that I find very stimulating.

Don't ever feel the need to defend what you write or believe - if we all agreed the sky was green - what a dull world it would be and what an empty forum!!

I worry about you since I came back Tonington - you seem more serious - I hope life is treating you well and you are just in the throes of maturation and "life's future"..... I always like to think of you swimming with the sea creatures....a beautiful smile on your face.

Well there's certainly financial issues to deal with now! Hah, paying for school, my fiance is going to Vet school, so 4-5 more years of school for her! And I'm considering a Masters after I put some time in with the company I work for. I guess I have the benefit of an aging demographic in my favour; companies are increasingly looking to retain talent, as well as develop talent. I hope to cash in on that :D

I am living on the Island now. Was going to go to the summer place of play, but Jamie was called into work because of another worker, who has since quit. Maybe some of my sourness seeped onto the intertubes...maybe this weekend I'll get out on the 'yak. Hopefully...

Start planting the seed in their mind now - It demonstrates a person willing to improve themselves and then sell them on how they can assist - also if they do i believe there are now tax implications for you - That is if they pay for it.

Also can you not take credits toward this on your own time and dime - That shows resolve and makes you more valued - Remember - they have you down for dollars - what you contribute to the bottom line - That can also be a selling point for you to use. Your ability to contribute to the bottom line.

AW Goober that's was a great idea !!

Merry Christmas and a fabulous 2010 to ya! It was a surprise for me to return to CanCon during the Olympics and see the same gang all battling the same foes and backing up the same buds.....

I thought "at least some things remain constant!!" I intended to back off after the Olympics were over but keep returning to enjoy more posts you guys put up. You people have a town all your own..... it's neat!

Hi Tonington

Thanks for your explanation - you certainly have a valid one - finances and university seem to walk hand in hand. I have always felt working my way through kept me on a dedicated track - it was horrible but I knew I
was committed. Still summers are for fun - we instill that in the very young - even school stops for a couple of months for us to grow, romp, fall in love, and get into trouble....to explore ourselves instead of having
to follow the orders of teachers/parents/life/humanity.

Glad you make time to climb into the big waters with your smiling happy sea creatures....and am sorry your fiance is having to work....but you two are getting the tough work done early so you can relax and enjoy your days in the future together doing what you want and when you want.

You know what's funny about that article? It doesn't say anything other than 'I think Obama is dumb', over and over. It doesn't go into any real details, facts, or examples. I like articles like this, when you read it, it doesn't actually say anything.

That author must be smart. He must be one of the smartest authors around.

In fact, he's got to be smart. How smart? So smart it would take him less time to eat his cereal than it would take a mountain to become a goat.

He's really smart. He wrote a thing, it was published in another thing. He's the smartest author in the world.

We all can see that he's really, really smart.

Even the Obamessiah cheerleaders are changing their minds.

World Sees Obama as Incompetent and Amateur

President Obama came into office as the heir to a great foreign policy legacy enjoyed by every recent U.S. president. Why? Because the United States stands on top of the power ladder, not necessarily as the dominant power, but certainly as the leading one. As such we are the sole nation capable of exercising global leadership on a whole range of international issues from security, trade, and climate to counterterrorism. We also benefit from the fact that most countries distrust the United States far less than they distrust one another, so we uniquely have the power to build coalitions. As a result, most of the world still looks to Washington for help in their region and protection against potential regional threats.

Yet, the Iraq war lingers; Afghanistan continues to be immersed in an endless cycle of tribalism, corruption, and Islamist resurgence; Guantánamo remains open; Iran sees how North Korea toys with Obama and continues its programs to develop nuclear weapons and missiles; Cuba spurns America's offers of a greater opening; and the Palestinians and Israelis find that it is U.S. policy positions that defer serious negotiations, the direct opposite of what the Obama administration hoped for.

The reviews of Obama's performance have been disappointing. He has seemed uncomfortable in the role of leading other nations, and often seems to suggest there is nothing special about America's role in the world. The global community was puzzled over the pictures of Obama bowing to some of the world's leaders and surprised by his gratuitous criticisms of and apologies for America's foreign policy under the previous administration of George W. Bush. One Middle East authority, Fouad Ajami, pointed out that Obama seems unaware that it is bad form and even a great moral lapse to speak ill of one's own tribe while in the lands of others.

Even in Britain, for decades our closest ally, the talk in the press—supported by polls—is about the end of the "special relationship" with America. French President Nicolas Sarkozy openly criticized Obama for months, including a direct attack on his policies at the United Nations. Sarkozy cited the need to recognize the real world, not the virtual world, a clear reference to Obama's speech on nuclear weapons. When the French president is seen as tougher than the American president, you have to know that something is awry.

Mort Zuckerman: World Sees Obama as Incompetent and Amateur - US News and World Report

PEGGY NOONAN: A Snakebit President: Americans want leaders on whom the sun shines. “Mr. Obama is starting to look unlucky, and–file this under Mysteries of Leadership–that is dangerous for him because Americans get nervous when they have a snakebit president. They want presidents on whom the sun shines.”

You know, folks like Noonan and Mort Zuckerman whining about Obama, after they praised him, pushed him, and voted for him in the face of all the evidence that led less besotted observers to see him for the empty suit he was, and is, leave me stone cold. Especially because these are the same snotty jackasses who arrogate to themselves superiority over those of us less “perceptive” folks.

Listen up, you punked, chumped boobs: We looked at Obama not through your rose colored hallucinations, but through the cold, clear spectacles of reality. None of what he’s done since has surprised us one bit. In fact, many of us, myself included, predicted it even before his coronation by people like you. Yes, it’s nice that after a year and a half of horrible examples, the truth about him is finally beginning to penetrate your skulls. But why, for the love of god, couldn’t you see it at the beginning, when it was no less obvious, but your understanding of it might have done some good?

Actually, never mind. Since Obama’s election will turn out to be the worst thing to happen to the leftist project in America in the past hundred years, and will free a generation from the chains of leftist quackery at just the time such freedom is most sorely needed, I actually thank our lucky stars for useful idiots like you two. Without such, we might have been saddled with John McCain, and that would truly have been a disaster for conservatism, liberty, and America.
