Well, in this case there's no room for essential fats. Ideally, EFAs should be consumed daily in proper amounts.

75% for Proteins sounds way too high. Almost sounds like a DR. Atkins diet which proved to be a real killer.

I just took a look at the at the nutrition charts............Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com

That 75% figure for protein is way out of whack, if a person ate nothing but pork chops all his life he would only get 69% protein. 50% carbs, 25% fat and 25% protein would sound more sensible to me. All fruits and vegetables are high in carbs and I think your fibre is mostly carbs.

Myself, I'm trying to lose weight. I did manage roughly 40lbs, gained almost twenty, but now have dropped ten of that twenty.

What happened? I reached that "plateau" people talk about - and unfortunately it was the winter so that didn't help either - and depression set in, which is a huge enemy to people trying to lose. But now that it's nice, I swim and I've joined a gym to work on things. I am going to try to get out walking, too. Most times it's hard though because I work night shift (which is another weight gain/loss enemy).

But so far the gym and swimming have worked.

It's hard, hard as anything to start and if you fall off the wagon, it only gets harder. Society is still cruel to people who are overweight. People think it's laziness when it may not be; there are tons of factors that could contribute to a person being overweight. Or overweight people are still called "fat and ugly" or ostracized or what have you.

People will even do childish things like rework song lyrics to make fun of an overweight person; faced with that, is it any wonder depression doesn't help?

But if more people were supportive, if more were "good for you" about it, maybe overweight people wouldn't feel like they're a monster for walking, or even attempting to run. Yeah, people may not want to see all that fat jiggle, but trust me, we don't like feeling it, either!

I also agree; a person's bone structure and genetics has a huge thing to do with it all and should be considered. Ideally for my height I should weigh 120lbs or so, but I know if I did weigh that much, I'd look absolutely horrible. My frame is just too big. I've read that for my frame size, 150ish is a better weight for me, and that makes more sense. The problem is a lot of misinformation out there, or "Studies" that contradict themselves. It doesn't help but it instead only adds confusion.

So instead of following some sort of "diet", I try to watch what I eat, don't get upset if I slip and hit the gym and pool and do a little extra for the days I do slip.

To those who have lost weight or trying to lose; keep it up, good work and have fun with it.

Congratulations- good for you. I've been on a program, I more or less contrived for myself for over 11 years ago and it's working for me. I started off reading the book "Fit for Life".....................Fit for Life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. There is a lot of good ideas there some of which I adopted- it's well worth reading- use what you like about it, disregard what you don't. I love to eat, so I concentrate more on the exercise side of the equation, if you can do as much as possible, the eating part becomes less of an issue. Good luck, I wish you well.

I like this attitude, healthy and very reasonable. Keep it going!

If you avoid wheat gluten, yeast and cow products(goat milk and cheese is OK) as well as artificial products you will not only loose weight but feel better. Exercise is also important.

Gluten makes sense if you have Celiac disease, but why would a healtyh person need to avoid it?

that's disgusting... this is what is wrong with society, that they think this is cool.

Disgusting? Nah- I use that term for gross stuff. One of the big problems in the world today is we can't seem to find enough to laugh about in the small things. (The man looks healthy and happy and he's not beating on anyoneJ):lol::lol:

The treadmill is great and if that is all one person can do then they should but as you said it is one dimensional. If a person can really buckle down on his/her diet and mix up their exercise it would be more beneficial. I honestly think it was the change in diet that made the weight loss. It was the training program that made the loss strictly fat loss and not muscle loss.
I seem to have missed a lot of posts. Quite a number of years ago, I gained weight to where I was 3 pounds over what I weigh today. I put myself on a diet. I was doing okay but after about 3 weeks, the manual treadmill I ordered arrived. I was doing stretching exercises daily but while they are good for your body, they were not helping my weight much. Once I stepped on that treadmill and walked for only 20 min. three times a week, my whole appearance changed (I stayed with my diet). Everyone around me asked what I was doing as my clothes looked huge on me. About a year after that, I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition. My sister too. My weight began to climb. I fully believe that the treadmill was the major difference. It made my diet work. My husband, for some reason I cannot fathom, hated my treadmill. It was a little thing really that I could have moved under the bed had I needed to. I insisted on keeping it and he continued to be annoyed with it. I finally sold it. I don't like to go walking alone and he refuses to go. I actually get panic attacks if I walk out of view of my house. (walk - not drive) Leaves me rather stuck. Use your treadmill and enjoy it. I loved mine and used it while watching any semi interesting TV show that I could easily walk away from when I was finished. These days most people probably listen to their Ipods.
Some of you focused in too heavy on the percentages I gave for carbs and proteins. I did say that I only heard a part of the show. Naturally we need fats. Good fats though. Having good fat does not mean you can eat all the olive oil you want because it won't give you a cholesteral problem. Fat is fat - good or bad and either way, too much and you'll gain weight. There are lots of good carbs out there that we need. There are more bad carbs that we do not need and probably should avoid completely or use rarely. White bread being a good start. Read labels because you will see that where they cut "fat" they add salt for flavour.

Do you mean goat cheese? Cheddar cheese is fat. Unhealthy animal fat. I have switched to Soy milk - way less fat and I rarely eat cheese. I don't care for Feta cheese much. We do use parmesan on pasta. I agree with Karrie regarding the gluten. I usually only eat 1 slice of bread per day anyway.

lol... who thinks it's cool? Have you seen a lot of these worn around your town? lol
It seems to fit in pretty well with all the WalMart shopper emails I get.
