Responding to posts # 65 and #66.

I have been thru this before: I AM Canadian, do not wish to be a citizen of any other country. At the same time, I am NOT a pseudo-patriot who can only take satisfaction of being a good Canadian by denigrating, bad-mouthing and ridiculing any and all other countries/nations, with special hatred for America.

These people seem to forget, that if it wasn't for America, the world would be a totally different place, with democracy, equal justice, free elections, freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc. under the control of an all-powerful goverment.

These people think that anyone who became a naturalized Canadian (in other words, EARNED citizenship, rather than by sheer dumb luck, born into it) who does not automatically despise the Yanks should be deported or stripped of citizenship.

Well, I am sorry, I am not going anywhere.

I DID work and lived in the States for six years, my employer asked me to apply for green card, but I told him that one citizenship change in one life time is about all I want to handle.

If I have sympathy for Americans maybe it is because I was always treated with respect by Americans, in the office, at border crossings or anytime I vacationed in the States.

These people who always bring up my country of origin, my skin colour and they are have the nerve to call me a racist.

Quite so, I have lived in USA for seven years (before we went off to Britain). We spent a lot of time in Salt Lake City, got to know Mormons very well. We made many friends in USA; we still keep in contact with some of them. We go across the border frequently for sightseeing, to visit people (I have a cousin in Nebraska; my wife has a niece in California).

So it is nonsense to claim that I hate Americans, nothing of the sort. At the same time, I have no time for American conservatives; they are the most right wing, most hateful bunch around.

It seems to me that main stream media was much more critical of Bush back then and even Clnton before him I had been watching CNN and NBC since the 90's and during the 2008 election I subscribed to Fox also on my dish because what I saw on the other two channels seemed to be one sided compared to what I was getting on the internet.
One thing that struck me was that I never saw a condescending press secretary like the one in the white house now, the way he tried to dress down a fox reporter who asked a question, just because of a comment a guest had made on Fox.
I also agree that there is bias by some of the commentators on fox, but at least that news organization reports all the news.
It may not always be front page, but it's there.

Oh of course it is one thing coming from the population in general, but it is indeed extremely petty coming from the POTUS:smile:
And the left wing press is very good with "Double Entendre" but even better with "Double Standard"

And why is it any different coming from the president? Are you saying president does not have freedom of speech, that Obama must clear everything he says with Republicans and with teabaggers to make sure that it doesn't offend them?

What do the teabaggers care anyway? According to them, Obama is a Nazi, a Communist, a Muslim terrotist etc. Surely teabaggers don't care what such an individual thinks?

Surely you don't mean that. What standards would you hold a Nazi or a Muslim terrorist to? According to many Republicans, Obama is a Nazi and a Muslim terrorist.

To hold Obama to a higher standard, he must be acknowledged as the president first. According to many republicans, he is not a true president, he is simply an illegal alien who is occupying the office illegally.

You can't have it both ways. If he is not the real, legitimate preident, there is no question of holding him to any standards.

Quite so, Icarus, YJ doesn't understand the concept of hypocrisy. He simply lists the (real or imaginary) misdeeds of Democratic politicians and calls it hypocrisy.

You put your finger on it, Avro. Liberals never preach others about morality; they never order others around to live moral life. So if they do something immoral (and they often do), it may be immoral, but it is not hypocrisy.

Conservatives however, are permanently on their soapbox, lecturing others how they should live moral, pure life (no homosexuality, no abortion, no premarital sex, no pornography, no gambling, sons must not be taught to do housework or to cook and so on). So when conservatives do something immoral (and they often do), it is immoral and it is hypocrisy.
