Quite so, those are called recess appointments. Every president does a bunch of those. There was one particularly odious recess appointment done by Bush, that was of John Bolton as the UN envoy.
John Bolton is a right wing extremist; today he would be an enthusiastic teabagger. He wants to get rid of UN completely, failing that, he wants US to get out of UN (and kick UN out of New York). He wanted the job of UN envoy simply to be a bomb thrower; he was not interested in working with any other countries.
He didn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of getting confirmed in the Senate; even some Republicans were against his nomination. Bush made a recess appointment. He was the UN envoy for two years and his influence in those two years was totally destructive, totally negative. He made the far right proud.
But then you know how it is. Any thing Bush did, that was a masterstroke of diplomacy, a superb example of statesmanship. When Obama does the same thing, he is a Nazi, a Communist, a Fascist, a Muslim terrorist etc.

Apparently the 9/11 terrorists took his advice (and applied it to the World Trade Centre).

My point hasn't changed, unlike the last adminstration Obama is doing his best in an admittedly flawed system to reunite the country that has been driven apart by the Republicans and the religious far right.
And he's doing it without the cooperation of the Republicans who helped create the current crisis.
Yes Obama will be judged by his results, the Republicans will also be judged by their actions in opposing him.

Can we really compare Obama to Bush anyway, I think America is better off with a real president than just a placeholder like Bush was for Cheney?
All I know is Obama makes me proud to be an American again something that what Bush and Cheney were doing to the nation made it hard to feel.
Go ahead and criticize Obama, the real problem is the lack of accountability in the US created by powerful lobbies like defence, healthcare insurers and Wall Street. I think Obama has balls going after the company -Goldman Sachs- that was his #2 campaign contributor(and McCains #4).

See how this administration rewards these guys? AIG just got there 3rd round of tax payer bonuses. One under Bush and two under Obama thus far. I thought Obama was different too. He dissapointed me on that one.
Whether lame duck or not, he was very much the president, the meltdown occurred under his watch. He gets most of the blame for it, and that is how American people saw it.
Oh, quite. Republicans are going to end up with a veto proof majority in the Senate, more than 400 seats in the House. Then Republicans will be able to govern, Obama will simply be the rubber stamp president.
Heaven will have appeared on earth. If you want really the Kingdom of Christ to return, maybe Republicans will make Joan of Arc the real power, make her the de facto president (they can do that with veto proof majority in the Senate), take policy directions from her (and of course, from Rush 'drug addict' Limbaugh).
