The incumbent will generally serve for at least five years, though this is only a developed convention, and the Governor General still technically acts At Her Majesty's pleasure (or the Royal Pleasure).[21] The Prime Minister may therefore recommend to the Queen that the viceroy remain in her service for a longer period of time, sometimes upwards of more than seven years (From: Governor General of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )

Question to you, the fact that she was not extravagant wasting tax payers money, what do you think Harpers motivation was for not extending her term. Could it be that she told Harper to refrain from further prorogation and he thought getting rid of her would put him in a more stable position.

Come on Folks! It's Easter! I know this is a political Thread, but this would be a
great day to extend an Olive Branch and laugh at all Politicians as a whole....
I'm off soon to go and celibrate the day with Family & Friends, and I hope
you all enjoy your day too.

Typical Liberal, he must have ethics thrust upon him.

And how much was this extravagance? what do you think Harpers motivation was for not extending her term. Could it be that she told Harper to refrain from further prorogation and he thought getting rid of her would put him in a more stable position.[/quote]Here's a little gem about the ChRETIeN gov't and their sense of fiscal responsibility (AKA extravagance):

  • $127,000 to make "Bubbles Galore" a pornographic film funded by the taxpayer
  • $98,000 grant from Canadian Heritage to print "500 Best Blonde Jokes"
  • $407,673 to fund the production of a theatrical "Tale of Fantasy" - where else but in the Prime Minister's own riding?
  • $4,100 for "a communication device to interact with rotting grapefruits"
  • $20 million per year for the Canada Information Office, a mysterious federal propaganda agency
  • Liberal cancellation of EH-101 helicopter contract cost taxpayers $1 billion
  • $60 million to cancel the Pearson Airport contract
  • In 1995 Bill C-68 (firearms registry) was passed and by 2005, the cost overruns had ballooned from the initial estimate of $2 million to a whopping $1 billion; up by a factor of 500. (this one was added by Anna :D)

Liberal Party - Wasteful Liberal Spending

I don't really mind you Hypogrits pointing fingers at the Cons for being fiscally sloppy, but I wish you would quit pretending to be fiscally responsible yourselves.

How can it be partisan when in fact she was appointed by the Liberals? She was doing a good job not costing the tax payers waist. Could there be another reason?
PS i WILL NEVER CALL YOU A COWARD.

Guessing games aren't facts in the real world. Why anyone does anything is purely speculation until you know for certain. Tell me this, if that mean o' Harper extended her stay and she let him take his football and go home again, wouldn't you be all over that like baby shyte on a blanket?

There's a dozen angles for everything to paranoids and propagandists.

What happened JLM no answer?, or is Harper entitled to rule with a bias and undemocratic principles?

Out of respect for Ron's request, Happy Easter Socrates- Now that that's been said lets get a couple of things straight. What's this "good pal" bullsh*t all about? Second, although I'm not a Conservative by any stretch of the imagination, I'm happy enough with Harper until someone better shows up, and I haven't seen any sign of him yet. Third, let's quit the B.S. about what you say has transpired between the G.G. and Harper, you don't have any more of an inkling about it than I do..........and personally I couldn't care less what conversation they had. I've voted in every Federal election in this country for the past 45 years and guess what.......................they are all the frickin' same...................what political stripe they run under means diddly squat, nada, zero, nil.

While I have your attention Soc. sorry for not responding in a timely manner BUT I have other stuff to do too. For one I have family visiting this weekend, some I haven't seen for two years and secondly you have to excuse me for a couple of hours every morning so I can do my morning walk (while think up more ideas for the forum)

How ironic that the Liberals proved to be the fiscal conservatives and the Conservatives the fiscal liberals.

I've never voted for a liberal candidate in my life yet, though I would if a good one should come up. I'd almost voted Reform once, and have even voted NDP on one occasio. I like certain conservative ideas. However, the Liberals were fiscal conservatives only in the sense that they weren't afraid to raise taxes if needs be, but not when it came to responsible spending. Then again, the Conservatives haven't proven so responsible either.

As for most NDP candidates, though I like certain ideas of theirs in ters of increasing funding for education, and a willingness to increase taxes, they also want to spend on all kinds of ishy washy unnecessary stuff that still goes beyond that that tax increases rake in, not to mention that they are too anti-capitalist (I have nothing against socialist ideas, except when they have to be so confrontational and pro-union).

We need to abandon our addiction to party loyalty and start voting for candidates of character regardless of their party loyalties.

Machjo- I was a staunch N.D.P. supporter for 30 years honestly thinking they were for the working man, anyway I finally got my eyes opened and now mainly vote for the best candidate in my riding. Anyway I recently heard one that pretty well sums up the N.D.P. "They are a very good party until someone elses money runs out"..............:lol::lol:

Hey first off I wish you a Happy Easter, second the pal bit if it offends you I did not include it with the intend to offend you, if it did I am not sure an apology is necessary when in fact I meant no malice. Third I thought this thread is about a discussion on the Conservative Legacy. I have not posted anything off topic on this thread, and the question still remains, why she is not allowed to continue, falls with in the context of the Conservative legacy, I am not calling you a Conservative, you are who you are and that entitlement, no one will take away from you. As for a successor in site?, a monkey would have done a better job.
Again enjoy the day JLM

I actually like the Scandinavian style social democrats. They try to engrave socialist ideas onto capitalist ones; they don't try to destroy capitalism per se. They aim not at establishing total equality but rather eliminate the extremes of wealth and poverty by modifying the capitalist system itself so as to make it fairer. The NDP could learn from that. Here in Canada they're far too radical.
