Of course I am, that what you get in a free and open secular society. Which is why Islam should never be allowed to take a hold in North America.
Very true, but that's a very strong opinion you have there.

You bet it's conflicting. The irony in the fact that I adore my free and open society, while opining that we exclude a position of it, is not only contradictory, but hypocritical.
I, too, absolutely love free and open society. Freedom is definitely a right that I like to have. But it's hard to form a firm opinion on this because it's contradictory.

I'm open to suggestions.
Canada's been negotiating different issues for years, why not negotiate with the Muslims? In the past, we've had issues between the people and the Roman Catholic Church, and we've managed to work out something. Why should it be different now?

I agree, I absolutely love being able to experience everything from Greek culture to Laotian, in an afternoons drive. But I'm to give up a small portion of my humanity, to protect what we have for future generations.
Yes, experiencing other cultures is fun And yes, we should protect what we have for those of the future. It not only helps the outlook of our Canadian society, but it also helps Canadians have a sense of what it is to be Canadian.

Let freedom of speech reign.
Amen to that.

I concur. But I can guarantee you, I didn't come to it easily, nor did I come to it over night.

Well to be factual, the British relegated the Roman Catholic Church to second class citizenship for many years.

Absolutely.

Ok, I will admit, I checked out your profile, and I noticed you indicated UAE as your home town. I deduced that you might be Muslim and was prepared for a heated debate. Instead I found a reason rebuttal, thank you, whether you're Muslim or not.

What stereotypes!

Each surah but the first starts with'In the name of god, the Compasionate, the Merciful'. And the Qur'an even states 'No compulsion is there in religion'.

These are among many quotes exhorting Muslims to justice and respect for others, Muslim or not.

I would hope not! Just curious though, what brought you to think like so?

I'm used to making hard decisions.
I praise you. I'm indecisive and making hard decisions is something I have yet to face.

True. I actually forgot about that little tidbit. Still, I'm sure we can work something out.

Absolutely.

True as it may be, I was born in UAE but i'm actually Catholic (though, I have way too many questions and other opinions that probably aren't well suited with my religion). Hey, no problem. I do what I can. Plus, I'm still a new member, I have to give myself a good impression, yes? :)

OK, time for a Canadian history lesson...

Canada, was a name bastardized by Jaques Cartier in 1535, when the village of Stadacona was pointed out to him. In Iroquoian, or as we prefer, Haudenosaunee, the word Kanata was used to indicate the village.

Cartier would later use the word to indicate the village and the surrounding area under Chief Donnacona as Canada. After awhile, it just sort of stuck. Consider it one small part of my peoples contributions to the founding of a nation.

And of course this is all verifiable in a numerous Canadian repositories of historical facts.

I hope that erases any erroneous misconceptions you had the origin of the name Canada.

In the bush near Sudbury
Acadian comes from a drunk slurring out "Canadian"

...or maybe it was an old name for Nova Scotia - Acadia

I like mine better

Oh yeah ... and "Caygun", as in bayou country (Not the CCR album) comes from Acadians who were deported to Louisiana.

Ok, sorry for my distraction, I hate it when people mess with history, especially a history so rich as one that involves my people.
I would hope not! Just curious though, what brought you to think like so?
I was deployed to Bosnia during the crisis there. I was assigned to one the safe havens in Srebrenica. I had close dealings with Muslims I was trying to protect from being slaughered. I also had an interesting interaction with a Muslim militia officer, who introduced me to fear.

I praise you. I'm indecisive and making hard decisions is something I have yet to face.
I was an NCO in the Canadian Armed Forces. I have own my own businesses, making hard decisions comes easy now, lol. Although at times I wish I didn't have to.

Despite the finality of my tone, I would hope so.

No problem, I might actually take a little longer to reply because I'm still in school at the moment.

Wow, that's a lot to be put through. I can't say that I fully understand without having gone through it myself, but I can understand why you would feel like so. Plus, my level of respect for you just grew respectably. :)

Well well, I wasn't expecting that! :D I'm sure no one likes to make hard decisions.

Despite the finality of my tone, I would hope so.
Canada's peaceful, we can do it.

Quite true, you've done an excellent job. And welcome aboard.
Thanks very much!
