But I think they do get more snow in St. Johns’ than they get here in Southern Ontario. The winters there (and in Manitoba, Saskatchewan) are much harsher than here.

We know a couple, their son is even smarter than our son (he got residency in Toronto, the best program in the country, Toronto did not even interview our son). After he came back from Winnipeg, he found it so cold, so miserable that he told me he is not going to Winnipeg, period, it wouldn’t matter to him it he doesn’t get a residency in Internal Medicine. He probably didn’t even rank Winnipeg, so that there would be no question of his getting matched there.

My son didn’t go that far, he was willing to go to the West if there was no alternative.

Why would it make people more sick? That makes absolutely no sense at all unless you are telling me that "user pay" types seek out poorer doctors.

To atone for previously straying off subject, I present for your reading enjoyment a bit of mischievous fun, completely on topic.

IT HAPPENED IN THE BIBLE BELT (Or could have!)...

The other night
As I did knelt
To say my prayers
In the Bible Belt

I prayed for peace
Without torment
And much less help
From government

But then a bolt
Of lightening flashed
And to the closet
I quickly dashed

I peeked back out
Behold and lo
A face appeared
Pierre Trudeau!

“Your prayers are wrong”
He boomed aloud
“Ottawa needs
A bigger crowd”

“To guide you through
Your life complete
You'll have enough
To drink and eat”

“My God”, said I
“Is it really you?”
But then the face
Just turned to goo

And in its place
Was Sir John A.
His face aglow
Just like mid-day

“Oh don't mind him
Or what he says
He's always thought
That he's the Prez”

“He's Satan's spawn
Or worse some say
And lots of souls
Were led astray”

“His great ideals
Are now quite dead
So you can start
To use your head”

“That's why it's there
Go forth and think
Remove the bonds
Of Liberal stink”

“The Bible Belt
Is where we start
With common sense
A course we'll chart”

“And years from now
When things are right
You'll know a miracle
Took place this night!”
