There is no flaw in the logic, YJ. The difference between smoking and drinking is that drinking in moderation doesn’t hurt you (some say that a drink a day may be even good for you). Smoking is harmful from the first puff of the first cigarette; the damage to lungs begins right away.

It is particularly harmful to convey the message to teenagers that smoking is cool (and that is the message they conveyed to the teenagers, perhaps unwittingly).

I imagine you rank as one of the most boring persons on the face of the earth.

From what i gather they thought they were alone ,very few saw them. If this was done out in the streets then hmmm nah they still deserve to celebrate the way they did.

As for being an example yeah riiiiiiiiiiight when those kids that heard of this and drink their first beer I will seriously doubt the will have the Canadians woman gold chapmions of 2010 in mind . One would have to be really naive to think that. They would have to have grown up in a place like saudi arabia and even then curiousity will get the best of them.

Does not matter if few saw them this was a public event no matter what you want to think.

There saind a wrong message to there idlies fans. you are you are saying tis ok we can show off etc... Adults need to learn to win with respect. this why you see so many adults get ban or kick from sporting events.

You are suppose to show how proud you are of a country not shove it everyone faces.

They should have turned the supposed debauchery up a notch with a lesbian orgy at centre ice, really give all these repressed, sensitive types something to bitch about.

I would have no problem with lesbian public display of affection, Durka. If heterosexuals can show affection in public, why not homosexuals? Besides, they are not going to turn any girls to homosexuality if they hold hands in public or kiss in public etc.

It is the smoking that I have problem with. They may very well turn a few teenage girls to smoking by their behavior, and one girl turning to smoking is one too many.

Look at the laws and come back to talk to me. Before bashing my own opioion i never said it was wrong. i said the way they did it was wrong. you can get arrested for being intoxicted in public so why allow it in public?

My friends wanted me to drink when i was underage... i said NO. but i did allow someone to drive me back home who did drink i was not thinking of that till a couple seconds after words. (i made that mistake) but i knew him since i was little

Hey its all good no harm no foul, can't read every single post here anyways. Epscially with my writing ;)

usa vs finland at moment (men of course) 6-0

The only law infraction would be underage drinking. But she is legal to drink in her home province so perhaps ignorance is to blame. None of them women were intoxicated, no different then cracking a bottle of bubbly after a car race etc.

The US whooped Finland, I expected them to beat them but not by that margin.

Don't worry though, we'll have our revenge Sunday assuming we defeat the Slovaks.

why are you bringing something into this that has nothing to do with it? Leave the gay, lesbian transsexuals alone they have done nothing wrong but want the same rights as equal rights.

btw why do you need to smoke and drink to have fun??

I'm talking full on A to M and T to V etc etc

They smoked a cigar, obviously not the smartest thing but it's not like they were chain smoking cigs.

For crying out loud, don't be such a prude. They puffed on a cigar, no harm. How many other sport winners swill champagne after they win.

Swilling champagne is much different from smoking a cigar. Alcohol is not harmful in moderation. Lung damage starts with the first cigarette, and the behavior of these athletes may well turn a few girls to smoking.

Teenage girls don’t take the proper view of it, they don’t think to themselves, well they have won a gold medal, if the smoke a cigar after that, it is no big deal. When I win a gold medal, I will also light up.

Teenage girls don’t think that way.
So now you presume you know how teenaged girls think. roflmao That's hilarious.
Sorry, but teenaged girls are not like that. If they take up smoking it's mostly because of peer pressure or some twisted sense of fashion, not hero worship.

Give it a rest, a couple of puffs on a stogie won't hurt anyone.

Quite so, Durka, but one must look at consequences (perhaps unintended consequences). And not what you or I may think, but how the teenager girls may think.

They idolize these women. If they see their idols smoking, it may very well persuade some of them to take up smoking.

Only a few saw them? Surely you jest? By now it is in the news all over the country, most fo the country is aware of it by now.

But really, was it so difficult to go to somebody's house or somebody's hotel room and smoke and booze up to ones' heart's content? Why didn't the coach or somebody else rent a room for them to celebrate?

What a lame argument. How do you know a girl won't decide to try it and like it of she sees homosexual displays in public????

And what about public displays of narcissism? How many young people will be screwed up by that?
