After vanquishing the Americans 2-0 to take the gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games on Thursday night, several of the players — still wearing their jerseys and gold medals — returned to the ice after the fans vacated Canada Hockey Place.
They cracked open cans of beer and brandished bottles of champagne, smoked cigars, clowned around for photos and lounged on the ice surface, soaking in their victory. One player was photographed sitting in the driver’s seat of an ice resurfacing machine parked on the rink.
The celebration caught the attention of the International Olympic Committee.
“Yes, we will look into this matter but it is not an investigation," Mark Adams, an IOC spokesman, told Reuters.
While the team is unlikely to face sanctions without a formal investigation, Hockey Canada issued a swift apology for the festivities.
"The members of Team Canada apologize if their on-ice celebrations, after fans had left the building, have offended anyone," the sporting body said in a statement. "In the excitement of the moment, the celebration left the confines of our dressing room and shouldn’t have. The team regrets that its gold medal celebration may have caused the IOC or COC (Canadian Olympic Committee) any embarrassment."
However, Canadians themselves seemed divided on whether their golden girls had anything to apologize for.

- kids follow who they like, this has nothing has parents to do with it. Parents cannot choice for htere kids who to look up to as an idle. Kids pikc them up.
Like barney for example after he was caught raping people... barney is still on tv with a different person in the suit... seriously... You need to think of kids and what you do in public before doing something stupid.once in a life-time event? its not like these women never won before in 2002... gold... wait they did.... winter Olympics also come back... will come... so don't act like this happens ever other century.

Yes we all do bitch and complain, if this was usa doing i am sure you be mouthing off right now. don't hide behind the computer desk,. Just be glad you did it to us other than Russia/Mexican etc... that is disrespectful, it does not show good sportsman ship.

oh wait i thought you said you all don't bitch and complain you just did to the usa... hum...

i wonder...

I think you missed my point completely. But that's OK, you're forgiven. I'm a very understanding sort.

I heard some of them were smoking cigars. An athlete smoking, what were they thinking? An athlete should know better than that. I can understand drinking. After winning the gold, there is bound to be a touch of high spirits. As to underage drinking, well nobody supports these things, but they do happen, it is not unheard of.

But smoking? They need a lesson on the ill effects of smoking. I would think the last thing an athlete would do is smoke.

They don't smoke, Joey. They passed around a ceremonial cigar and had a puff. No lessen on the evils of smoking needed. Again, this is much ado about nothing.
