Open Question
How many have witnessed racism both overt and subtle in the workplace and how did people react.
Or even when out shopping - example person ahead of you and a sales person comes to you instead of the person ahead of you yet they - ( minority were clearly there first).
Now what would happen if all those good folk considered OJ to be innocent just because he's a "bro"?
Personally, I thought OJ was guilty, but there was no way he could be found guilty, because the police admitted on the stand that they routinely fabricate evidence, especially when the accused is black.
Once that fact has been established, none of the evidence can be believed, so the result was obvious.
I don't think that they thought he was innocent, but the LAPD was more guilty and NO ONE even Jack the Ripper should be indicted with that rotten police force in place. I was there when the verdict was read and my brother who lived in LA couldn't leave the house for a long time because it was just mayhem.. I personally don't think he actually did it himself, but perhaps was there and orchestrated the whole thing and the actual perps are LONG gone living in Mexico, or overseas somewhere. He by no means was innocent.
Anyway.
I live in the Southern part of the US and have lived in the DEEP south where I had to keep my gun and rottweiler close at hand due to the racial threats.
A racist is a person who has unreasonable fear and hatred towards people of a certain race ie black, hispanic, middle eastern, asian, native peoples etc. The are ignorant and narrow minded and stubborn out of fear and a poor self esteem. They find anything and anyone not the same a threat to their home, job and family. My children are bi-racial and men would come up to me and just casually say that they would not let their children marry outside their race, but little did they know that they kids were ALREADY dating outside their race. A black man could have the cure for cancer and they would not recognize his accomplishment because they STILL see him as lower than them eventhough they barely have a high school education.
A xenophobe is a person who has a fear, even a strong dislike for anything foreign ie not from the local region ie the Southerners don't like the Northerner's, American's not liking non-American's etc. This has nothing to do with race, just not being from that particular place/region.
Being prejudice is making a judgement before actually knowing anything about that race, culture etc. Some people tend to change their views on this one as they LEARN about the culture and person, but if they STILL have hate despite what they know, then they are racist. Now a lot of black people can be prejudice because of the racism and there is a lot of distrust of the whites in the area. You have to know that the South is and still is not a friendly place. People who they thought were friends end up turning on eachother. The Obama election brought a lot of that out.
A red-neck is just an ignorant southerner who has absolutely no class, or social skills, but here in the South people will call themselves that proudly and I just shake my head because no matter how you paint it, that is nothing to be proud of.
A separatist is a person who is anti-government and mostly anti-semitic because they feel like the Jewish community is in control. They are mostly homeschooled and keep to themselves and extremely full of hate even bordering on terrorists because they feel they don't belong to the mainstream society. These are the skin-heads, Aryan Nation type people. Timothy McVay who blew up the Oklahoma City building was a separatist.
Anyway, I hope this sheds more light on this sad and horrible topic.
Racism is a cancer and a taught/learned behaviour. It can be a subtle as just a tight squeeze of a white child's hand when black man walks by. Automatically that child has been taught to have caution with a certain type of person.
Sorry this was long, but I LIVE this crap daily and Canadians I know have their issues, but I still was treated with much more respect than I have been here in the states.
Where in the South do you live?
Please forgive me for not being clear in my question...I meant to ask what is the generally-accepted (universal, if you will) definition of a racist, not who/what any particular person might consider to be an example of one.
I recall years ago, my first day at a new job. The 2 ladies in the office were accepting applications. However, I did see them take an application from a man who was not white. As soon as he walked out the door, they promptly crumpled up his application and threw it in the garbage. I knew that was really wrong, but being my first day, I never said a word. My job was answering phones on an order desk with one other person ( a dark skinned person). And I ended up being fired because he couldn't be bothered to answer the phone while I was in the washroom, and I 'called' him on it. I think it just happened there was a 'walk-in' customer at the counter at the time, and I was reported. I still, to this day, don't recall seeing anyone at the counter. So, at that time I was really torn between what was wrong (the office ladies) and what the order desk guy's problem was.Open Question

Part of the problem is caused directly by Moslems - Not all - They tolerate or ignore the fanatics - then those who stand up are threatened - It takes a community to decide if the support or disavow terrorism - turning away from the Toronto 18 as many did, along with many defenders - has harmed the Muslim community with many Canadians - Not I - but many - I think that you comment while reasonable is not completely accurate with what facts we have seen. The Moslems living in Canada, for some, have become the new Jews. Fair game for outrageous generalization.
Now who would have expected comments of this sort from Bill Clinton - I certainly did not - sad but as I have stated on previous threads in particular the campaign during the Liberal leadership race about Bob Rae;s wife being Jewish - It is everywhere - and not just located within rednecks - But then Libs and dems will deny that to their dying day.
[A]s Hillary bungled Caroline, Bill’s handling of Ted was even worse. The day after Iowa, he phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy. Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.
EagleSmackAs I have stated numerous time racism is not just a white mans area - it crosses and destroys all in its wake - It is in all political parties, commerce, business - but what is also rampant are those that accuse people of being racists when they are just performing their duties - according to the experts this is called Reverse Discrimination - Bulshxt - racism is racism - no reversing crap - that term is only used by Human rights boards and only when a white person is incorrectly accused of being a racist and later to be found not to be a racist. Racism is racism - No reverse about it.That is the attitude many NIMBY Liberals have here in the US.
As one Liberal yet honest writer from a Boston newspaper stated...
"All of us Liberals love little black children...until they want to build a school in Harvard Square"
Referring to African-Americans wanting to build a school for African-American youths smack in the middle of Cambridge Mass... Harvard Square...the center of liberal America IMO. The liberals successfully squashed that school. NOT IN MY BACKYARD.
