The Biblical explanation is that 'all flesh' has a certain list. Flesh was one requirement, if it didn't qualify then it was not meant to be killed off. Notice Genesis leaves out fish? Revelation includes them as you can bake a fish but you cannot drown one. lol
1Co:15:39:
All flesh is not the same flesh:
but there is one kind of flesh of men,
another flesh of beasts,
another of fishes,
and another of birds.
That is who was aboard the Ark. The Ark had windows and they were opened after the rains stopped. Would Dolphins, Whales, and great fishes come to help buoy the Ark up so those on board had a safe voyage? All the while chatting back and forth.
More likely the words were more in line with "Good-bye to ......" repeated steadily by everyone on board, once for each one they knew that had just died in the waters, time-frame the full 40 days. That would be the combined voices of the 8 people and all those others safely aboard. That was the first time God closed the door that resulted in a group being called the remnant. Revelation is the last time that any group will be taken down to a remnant.
If man was the shepherd to the flesh on earth imagine how fond the flesh was towards their maker. The flesh got there the same way they came to Adam to be names, God called and they followed.
Ge:2:19:
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field,
and every fowl of the air;
and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them:
and whatsoever Adam called every living creature,
that was the name thereof.
That's two references to children's books, would you like the parable version as they are quite easy to understand. I will believe you are ready for the more meaty parts if you can tell me just how this verse fits in with the flood that was 21 ft of rain.
De:33:2:
And he said,
The LORD came from Sinai,
and rose up from Seir unto them;
he shined forth from mount Paran,
and he came with ten thousands of saints:
from his right hand went a fiery law for them.
