Socrates, there are many people in Canada who really don't give a darn about what the government did or didn't know. They are more concerned about the lives of the men and women who so bravely serve in our Armed Forces. This is simply one of them.

Letter to the Editor

Written by a housewife in New Brunswick, to her local newspaper.

'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from the nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania? Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they? And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan. I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the Canadian media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a CANADIAN soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and
other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn you guessed it, I don't care!!

But a growing number now do care and most importantly want to know why our Government lied to us.. Nobody has questioned our troops, that has never been the point..

The deference between Snow white to Bloody White is huge, (white folks who are guilty of war crimes), it single-handedly labels Canada as a preacher and not a doer.

If you take an honest close look this bombshell confirmed by the top man of the Canadian military is a preliminary indictment to anyone involved in dereliction of duty.

Well, Francis, you may be right but I wouldn't be surprised to see the numbers flatten considerably once Parliament is adjourned for Christmas. People seem to have very short memories when they are not be stirred up by the media.

Just for the record, I do not condone torture. I am simply not convinced by anything I have yet seen or heard that beyond one or two instances, torture was as rampant as the media would have us believe. And, to say that the conduct of our troops has not been questioned is facetious, imho. It isn't a bunch of politicos fighting over in Afghanistan.

I'm of two minds about this. A little torturing isn't a big thing, but we want to make damn sure it's the right ones,,,,,,,,,,not just some Muslims willy nilly who haven't actually caused us any harm......................YET.

Many conservatives are indeed ambivalent about torture, pgs. They were ambivalent during Bush presidency, Darth Vader and his gang thought torture was sometime necessary.

Now conservatives under your Messiah seem to feel the same way. Rather than find out if torture really took place, their attitude is one of cover up and shoot the messenger.

Perhaps it may work with Canadians this time, I don’t know (or as Mowich said, maybe Canadians will forget that conservatives are involved in the torture scandal). But generally this is how downward slide of any administration begins. People forgive first scandal, maybe second one, but after that, watch out.

This is what happened with Mulroney.

You really do sum up the general conservative attitude, JLM. I know you have said that you don’t consider yourself to be a conservative, but that indeed is conservative attitude, that torture is sometimes justified.

It wouldn’t surprise me if many conservatives are wondering what all the fuss is about.

Quite so, catman. Red Cross, Amnesty International are highly reputable, respectable organizations with high level of integrity. Any time AI criticizes any government, that government angrily denies the allegations and denounces the AI.

So I would believe Amnesty International over any politician in Canada. I don't know if the Messiah and his acolytes have denounced Amnesty International yet. But if they haven't, no doubt it is coming.

WRONG ON TWO COUNTS- Torture is not a political attribute, two (not forgetting the old adage there is an exception to every rule), in war the normal rules change, especially when dealing with a bunch of heathens who have blown up 3000 of your fellow country men.

Perhaps, JLM. But my position is that torture is never justified. In addition to being inhumane (it reminds one of Spanish Inquisition, Witch burnings, rack, thumb screw, iron maiden etc.), I think it rarely serves its purpose. The torture victim will tell the torturer anything the torturer wants to hear, just to get out of the torture.

But there are some who think that sometimes torture is justified (presumably they themselves will decide when it is justified and when it isn’t). And most of them are conservative. That was vividly apparent in USA, when Darth Vader (Dick Cheney to those uninitiated) and his minions seemed to support torture under some circumstances.
