I don't see what Jesus being dead has to do with Big Bang. But each to his own, I suppose.
We compensate for the lack of God's love in our lives by seeking love, admiration, and acceptance from other people foremost, instead of God himself, the source of all love. This is why most crave fame and fortune.
Jesus said:
"How can you believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from God only?" John 5:44
Or that we are so insignificant that they just don't have time to pay that much attention. To me the Universe is real.It may be what people refer to as god. If there is a god I think the Universe is it. We are but a tiny speck in the big picture. I suppose that is why the human ego had to invent a god who cares about him. In the end, it is up to us to care about ourselves and each other.Gods may love us, but they sure don't show it. No parent should outlive their children, but they do. No kids should be deprived of their parents before their time, but they are, etc.
Why is it that anything nice happens to someone and it's some god's love, yet when something bad happens to someone, they're at fault or it's "gods work in mysterious ways"? I like the last one because it excuses any foul behavior.
No, the evidence is overwhelming that gods simply don't give a crap about anything.

I'm not a particularly religious person so probably shouldn't be sticking my nose in here, but I do believe this- death may not be as bad as we think, it's just a transition from one chapter to the next and perhaps the next chapter is a better one. This life here on earth may be very insignicant in the great scheme of things. I doubt very much if humans will ever know all there is to know while in this one existance, so it's a little early yet I think to judge the Gods.
Are they not all-seeing and all-powerful? If so, why do they allow such incredible and immense amounts of suffering on innocents like kids?I'm not a particularly religious person so probably shouldn't be sticking my nose in here, but I do believe this- death may not be as bad as we think, it's just a transition from one chapter to the next and perhaps the next chapter is a better one. Why? What is the need for it?AnnaG:
It could be answered perhaps by going back to the purpose of our existence. First, who are we?. Most would be surprised to learn that we are spirits. We are this and have been given a body or natural substance to do God's work here on earth. So then we become a dual nature. We are then servants of God and our focus is to do his will and in the right attitude, not grudgingly. He sends us to do the work and we are his ambassadors on this planet.
God, the epitome of parent, has so much in store for the children that do his will. Such is eternal love, the only kind of love that he could give. We are all heirs to share the kingdom of God, and we are created with a unique identity reserved only for us, and that is we are created in his image. God has placed us on such a high importance in heaven that scripture says we are destined to judge angels and be beatified, to be present at his table and share in the distinction of being a Son of God ourselves. This is no trivial bestowal, it signifies to us just how we are esteemed by his Majesty.
While here in this exile away from our true home, we see all sorts of unpleasantness. We see catastrophe's and misery everywhere we turn, and God tells us the natural disasters and disease is a given.
I'll pass. What is expected of us? The significance then becomes how we contribute to making this world better and being a conduit to transfer that love to his beloved people through our works. In fact a person who places his whole heart into glorifying God in this manner will begin to feel the insignificance of self, and a transition begins to take over where he strives to make better the lives of others, and this becomes his lifes ambition, because the gift of Divine satisfaction which he now feels through grace has no earthly comparison of joy. We are reminded in our era the works of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who had nothing of her own personally, but was overjoyed in doing the work of God every day. Ecclesiastes teaches us about the insignificance of worry and concerns, and what true happiness truly is. It says that we are to place these concerns in sacrifice, and desire absolute submission to what God wants and leave everything to him. This means the pursuance of happiness is given up for trust, and God's work is a starting place.
I see. So we should be in abject misery while we are here. Again, I'll pass. What's the point of torturing babies and toddlers? The senses and the devil are our enemies here. The senses cause us to satiate ourselves through things and experience. The devil presents to us delectable things that are finite and do not last. He suggests that all this misery in life isn't worth it, that our endeavors are without effect. Our senses prevent the light of God from entering our soul, and we ask why God doesn't shine down his relief and make our lives better.
My life's mandate is to enjoy it and I am. Why should I please something that obviously has no interest in what goes on here and designed things to be such flops and duds? And who says gods are he's anyway?Scripture tells us to detach, to become one with God in doing Divine tasks which is our life's mandate. Only then will we be able to see the reasoning of it all, for before we were hindered with man's reasoning, now God shows us a Divine reasoning has a reward. In order to understand, which only comes from God, we need to conform and stop fighting back, to believe first. He will not intrude on our desires. The first step comes with us and he will grace us with wisdom proportional to our attitudes and proven works.

Getting disconnected from God enables one to think logically, without any hang-ups. If one is connected to God, anything he looks at must be distorted to fit into what his Holy book says, or what the religious readers (priests, Pope, the Imams, Ayatollahs etc.) say.
Being disconnected from God, one is free to be a free thinker.
Prayer is to ease the mind of the prayee. It really has nothing to do with god. It is a psychological Linus' blanket.I don't see any reason to talk to somebody who as far as I've ever been able to tell pays no attention.
