Juan, until I saw the Cobra with my friend the plastic surgeon, I had not even heard of the Cobra. But after that I became interested and looked it up on the internet. Apparently not too many were made. Now they are priceless antiques.

Former race driver and entrepreneur Carroll Shelby, has built a number of these cars for charity at one million dollars a copy. The Cobra was related in many ways to the Ford GT40 which won LeMans four or five years in a row.

Btw there are several companies that will build you a Cobra for around $200,000.00

There were 75 AC Cobras built with 260 cubic-inch engines and 1000 built with 289 and 427 cubic-inch engines. It was originally a English sports car called an AC Bristol and the Cobra carried the same basic body model through. Carroll Shelby had them adapt an 8 cylinder engine to it. It went through many changes before it finally resulted in the monster car that Shelby had in mind.

The AC Cobra's competition record became the scourge of Corvette and Ferrari drivers, and original AC Cobras built such a heritage that they are now very valuable collectibles. Over the years, an estimated 150 companies have produced AC Cobra replicas.

I remember reading that there were a certain number of serial numbers that were never completed, and therefore Shelby could build a few more cars, and not have to meet modern emissions or safety standards, because they were already 'on the books' so to speak.

Anyway, as hot a number as it was, the Cobra would be dusted by some of the products that came out since. It's younger cousin, the Viper, for instance, Ferraris F-50, and so on.
TVR has been making the same sort of thing since the 40s, I think. Like a lot of other companies that produce specialty items, they go broke periodically. lol

"Jack you have no idea what you are talking about. The 427 Cobra weighs 2100 lbs and has 550 horsepower."

Spinning the rear wheels, standing still, is a status symbol only for those who have more money than brains. I think that even my 1991 Pontiac Sunbird with the V6 could stand up to a stop-start, at a traffic light, to a Cobra.

If not quite, who minds at one fiftieth of the price. Not to mention that the Cobra would be an expensive pile of rust, while my Sunbird would still be ruinning.

TenPenny (I hope I spelled that correctly), obviously nothing is so satisfying for the feebleminded as catching a fellow poster misspelling a word.

You must be totally satisfied.

You just don't see any humour in word games, do you? It's not about making anyone look bad, it's about having fun with words. Puns and homonyms. Riffing on a spelling mistake, making it into something clever but still on-topic.

Relax, and go buy yourself a sense of humour. Nobody here gets out alive, you know.

I think my friend bought one for 500,000 $. Money means nothing to him, and he probably wanted to won a antique car.

And yet he couldn't afford to keep up the maintenance on it? Batteries aren't that expensive. I've yet to see a rich dood who thinks money is nothing.
BTW, you can tell your friend, he was raped unless the car was previously owned by someone famous. The highest I've seen them go for was one in Europe at about 155,000£ (around 300,000$)

That is why he got a lot of teasing. Here is this 500,000 $ Cobra and it has to depend upon a lowly SUV to get it started. Of course it is understandable, seeing that he does not take it out of the garage all that much.

The two cars I have require almost no maintenance. I change the oil and filters every 4000 klicks and replace the transmission oil and fluids every 8000. Tires on the Miata seem to last about 60 to 70,000 km. The Camry tires last a little longer. I rotate them probably four times over the life of the tires. I would jump in either car and drive to Calgary and back(in the Summer) without a thought. I couldn't have done that with all the cars I've owned.
