Hey have any of you Islanders been to Robson Bight?
Last I heard they had a spill there. I used to love that place, it used to be called the rubbing rocks because the whales would come to literally rub themselves on the smooth rocks on the bottom. Not sure how the fishing was but the view was often stellar!

I haven't been there, and there hasn't been a spill there for many years.
Very well known area, maybe some other islanders will have more info.

Oh that's good news. You should make the effort to go sometime and see it. It's the only place on Earth the see this happening I think.

That's why I keep the pickerel and throw the walleye back.

Caught one keeper Bass this evening, Petros.

Suppose I should wax eloquent regarding catch and release, so some numbnut can catch the same fish over and over.

Nope!!

2 fillets resting in our freezer; waiting for two more. Then we eat!!!

Muncha muncha

Do you folks have "The original FISH CRISP" in yer stores??? Good stuff.

"Rocky Madsen's" original FISH CRISP..............dunno who he is, but, the stuff is really tasty. :sign4::sign4: No spam. No financial interest. Even better than my flour, breadcrumb, salt, pepper, maybe an egg, some beer.

'Sides, it's by R O C K Y Madsen....................umph umph umph:naka:

mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh whatever.:glasses7:

I don't know if we have it. I've never heard of it before and we sell lots of things that I never even take note of. As long as they scan - I don't care what they are.
We have owned a couple of restaurants so we make our own batter - if we feel like batter. I don't like beer batter. Other than that - as I mentioned earlier, we use panko breading. Put the fish into flour, then into a beaten egg, then into the panko and fry or deep fry.

The best and most logical starting point for a trip to Robson Bight is Telegraph Cove.It is a small harbour that used to house the telegraph station.Robson Bight is easily reached from there by ocean kayak and both individual and guided rentals are available. You start from a beautiful rustic harbour and head out into Johnston Straight through a small opening in the cliffs.A right turn and a flowing tide will carry you right into the bight, although you must keep your distance the whales are often all around you. With the proper timing an ebbing tide will ease your return trip. The scenery alone is worth the trip.Other than killer whales one might see blue sperm or grey whales as well as sea lions, seals and porpoise.Eagles commorants and other sea birds abound, well the ship traffic is always interesting to watch.

A trip well worth while in my humble opinion.

The walleye is also known as pickerel. The northern pike is sometimes called jackfish. A Perch is a ...... perch.

Hey Unforgiven- if you want to see some gigantic fish and don't mind some portaging (canoe only) go to Algonquin Park, start in Lake Opeongo and head north then portage a couple km east to Happy Island Lake- the trout in that lake are ridiculous and it's a motor free lake so it's real clean- just to the north is Merchant Lake which is supposedly clear to the point where you can't tell whether the rocks underwater are directly below the surface or fathoms down.

We would have checked it out but but when we were there we were warned by the rangers to avoid the necessary portage as there was a bear attacking people about halfway down the route (tho the day after we heard about the bear we heard a gunshot in the middle of a no-hunting zone and assumed the bear problem had been solved)

There's tons of places to fish here in Niagara region but not too many that I'd eat anything out of- there's an awesome pond stocked with rainbow trout about 15 minutes south if you must eat em (and being born and raised in Bracebridge where catching fish and eating fish is pretty much all we did, I kinda don't see the point of not eating at least SOMETHING)

I've got tons of it. I'm friends with Rocky. When SCB and I owned a little bait and tackle shop in town here, we met Rocky, Darryl Cronzy and Bob Izumi. I can't stand Bob, but Darryl is the real deal. SCB's panko recipe is still better then Fish Crisp.

It's not bad, but Rocky didn't invent it...;-)...he scooped the recipe from someone else...;-)

Darryl's got a new coating out now, better then Rocky's. Hence their break up, lol.

There is only one batter mix that comes close to English fish and chips:

McCormick Golden Dipt Fish 'n Chips English Style Batter Mix. The stuff comes in a blue box. You just add water. Directions are on the package.

Hey Wayne, have you tried Dick's Fish and Chips in Campbell River? It's right on the water (literally a floating joint). I must say they make some serious F+C's.

Not yet, but I will. I'm always looking for a place to get good F&Cs. I plan to get up to Campbell River this Summer. I will let you know when.

If you feel like it give me a shout before you come up. Maybe we can have lunch together.

I've tried fish and chips all over the place, the best is 'barbs place' victoria, on the harbour, and
close runner up is 'shady rest' qualicum.

Can't remember the name but we went to a little place in Sidney about 10 days ago. They have halibut with home made fries. Super thin batter. I've never had better (other then when we make them at home). Fish was so fresh and the fries very tasty. Coleslaw was okay but it needed a touch of horseradish. I don't know of any particular place that serves really good F & C here in Nanaimo.
