Liberals Preparing For A Summer Election

The Liberals will gain seats at the expense of the NDP in Ontario for sure – Quebec from the Cons possibly but you never know what is going to piss of a Quebecker now do you.

Liberals will gain seats? Surely that is blasphemy? Anyway, the question is, can the Messiah hang on to his seats in Ontario. Currently liberals are substantially ahead in Ontario (even federally). As usual, Ontario will decide the winner.

There are so many conservatives in this forum (not directed at you in particular, Nuggler). They defend their Messiah at each and every turn, in each and every post, yet they claim that they are not partisan. Why? Don’t they have the guts to admit that they support the Conservatives?

Now me, I have no problem proclaiming loudly that I am a firm supporter of liberal principles. Since Liberal party comes closest to upholding these principles, I mostly end up supporting Liberal party. I am not ashamed of my opinions.

But due to some reason, many conservatives seem to be ashamed that they are Conservative. They defend Harper in each and every post, they trash Liberals in each and every post, yet they claim not to support the Conservatives.

Well fellows, my advice to you is, have the courage of your convictions, proclaim loudly that you are indeed a conservative. And those who deny this, let me ask them when was the last time you criticized your Messiah?

Wrong again. Globe is not a Bastian of liberalism, only a right wing Harper acolyte (like you) would call it that. The Globe endorsed Conservatives in the last two elections. Globe is a conservative supporter, but more a Red Tory than a Blue Tory (hence you may have a problem with the Globe).

As I said, show me an opinion poll, then we will talk about it. An opinion poll will tell us how people feel about it (not the Alberta Conservative posters here). Until than, whether he caved depends upon one’s politics.

Perhaps, JLM. However, when somebody agrees with Harper on just about everything, when he praises Harper to high Heaven, when he trashes Liberals at every opportunity, I draw the logical and reasonable conclusion that that somebody is indeed a loyal conservative, a committed Harper acolyte (in spite of what he may say).

Unfortunately for Liberal supporters the election isn't today.

Harper was given 2 minority terms and he made a mess of them, I doubt any one will be willing to give them a third minority term, and expect a worst mess, that is almost a financial death wish to allow an incompetent political party a 3rd try.
A person with limited political knowledge will understand that.
So............if anything the polls will increase in the next 3 months in favor of the Liberals.

Captain, experience shows that people quickly forget who called the election and why. Thus when Martin lost the lection, people were 2 to 1 against having an election. Still they did not penalize the Conservatives, Harper won a minority. There is no evidence to suggest that people will punish whichever party calls an election. To my knowledge it has never happened before (that a party was ahead in the poll, forced an election and lost because they forced an election).

Suppose Harper was in the majority territory today (40% or higher). Do you think he would care if people want an election or not? No way, he would call a snap election.

So I think that is a non factor, a non issue.

A good opportunity would exist for the Cons to form a majority, and that would be a benefit during these recessionary times.

Only during recessionary times? I thought Conservative majority is always a good thing, I thought a perpetual Conservative majority (like they have in Alberta) is just what Canada needs,

Gotta disagree with you SJP.. Harper got tremendous traction from the scandals and frauds perpetuated by the Chretein libs. martin was collateral damage.
