Most Canadians would not want to have dinner with Stephen Harper or Michael Ignatieff, and less than a third feel either of their political parties can manage the economy, according to a new Strategic Counsel poll.

The survey, conducted for CTV and The Globe and Mail, appears to show a growing weariness over Canada's federal politicians.

When asked which party leader they would invite over for dinner, respondents said:

• Stephen Harper: 19 per cent
• Michael Ignatieff: 15 per cent
• Both: 10 per cent
• Neither: 56 per cent

I can't think of one that I WOULDN'T like to tangle with, but not over dinner.

What caught my eye about the story is that, despite the fact that Harper had his personality surgically removed when he was eight, more people wished to have dinner with him.

Well, seeing as how he is the Prime Minister, I think most people would rather rake him about pet issues.

Oddly, I nearly had the opportunity to have dinner with the Harpers, good friends of ours are good friends of Stephen and Laureen, (they were next door neighbours back when Stephen was an unemployed economist). They had invited the Harpers over to dinner during a campaign stop out this way, (befroe he was PM) but they didn't have the time. We even had a spare ticket to the Military Tattoo and Laureen was supposed to join us but couldn't make that either. Oh well.

Well sure, but considering he shares the same views as you and I on the issue of firearms, (I think), I'd like to keep him on my side, politically anyway.
