Coach: Quit booing the U.S. anthem

''Montreal coach Bob Gainey appealed to Canadiens fans to stop booing the U.S. national anthem.
Gainey said fans who booed during "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Game 3 of the playoff series with the Boston Bruins should find other ways to voice support for their team.
"I feel like there's a confusion there with our fans," Gainey said Tuesday. "They feel like booing the anthem is supporting our team, in that the anthem represents the Boston team''

The St. Louis Blues fans did the same thing to the Canadian Anthem. I really wish people would grow up and respect the anthem. Pathetic.

I'm watching a replay of the Summer Slam wrestling show from 1997. Just before Bret Hart's match, the Canadian national anthem was played and many American fans booed.

That too was obnoxious. Neither country should boo the other. What bothers me more is that the players never sing the Anthem (on any team).

At the few hockey games I've been to, I'd always sang both national athems. If the looks from people around me could kill, I'd be dead a long time ago. I really don't understand what their problem is. I'd like to tell them to grow up. I sing them both if watching a game on t.v. I've sang both the American and Canadian national athems at different events for as long as I can remember. And now I know the words to the Swedish anthem. If I knew the words to more National athems, I'd probably sing those too.

Patriotism is one of the most divisive sentiments out there. We are brothers and sisters of Earth. Imaginary lines on a map are the scribblings of drooling control freaks.

There is only ONE thing a loyal Canadian must remember:

The more you bash those despicable Yanks, the better Canadian you are.

There in is the problem

Is any prejudice ever justified. Why can't we direct our criticisms at a specific person or organization? Is it really so difficult to do that it's preferable to just stereotype an entire nation?

Any critism gets labled predudice. Most times it is not considered whether the criticism is justified or not. The other side just lashes back with a rejoiner and the feud continues.

Well, yes and no........those squiggly lines drawn by the control freaks designate the borders (far too often) of liberty .[Not so the one between us and the USA.]............or of each separate culture's attempt to create the best society possible.

The best results are always found by trial and error, and that requires great diversity..........

That depends on how you define 'patriotism'. I define patriotism as nothing more than love for one's country. This does not preclude an equal love for all mankind.

'Nationalism', however, is what I'd define as a belief in the moral superiority of one nation over another; and that, I agree, is divisive. While nationalism divides, patriotism unites.

And though it's fine to look at the lyrics of our national anthems with a critical eye, I still think that we should show them the respect they deserve as national anthems, even if as nothing more. We can certainly agree or disagree with the lyrics, but can discuss it in a mature fashion rather than booing an anthem down while it's playing. If we don't like it, we're free to keep our silence while it's playing. No one is forcing us to sing it.

For all those lazy bastards who come here with crap like "LOL", "ROTFLMAO" and similar such, grow up, and express yourself a bit more coherently.

With your modern keyboard, is it so hard to peck out what you mean?

Or is it just too hard for stupid pieces of crap like you to say what you mean?
