If your goalie is playing lousy but your forwards and defense can score 10-15 goals there's a good chance they'll win.:lol::lol: Anyway Chicago beat Calgary which is good but we want them to take 7 games to do it, preferably playing O.T. the final 5 games.

Yes, that could work, would be interesting to see, maybe we can bring cloutier
back for a couple of games, and prove your theory, oh oh, I forgot, (the 10-15
goal part, oh well.(I know, we'll blindfold the other goalie).;-)

For the Canucks…

When the Vancouver Canucks signed Mats Sundin back in late December, it was known even then that ultimately his true value to the team would reveal itself in the playoffs. On Friday night, the 38-year old definitely proved his worth. The 6’5”, 231 lbs. centre took a page out of Save-on-Foods’ book and provided some playoff heroics of his own by breaking a scoreless tie late in the second period with a perfect deflection of a Pavol Demitra shot beating Chris Mason five-hole for his first goal of the 2009 playoffs and his first post-season goal overall since May 4, 2004 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

For the Bromma, Sweden native, Friday night’s goal also snapped a 14-game goal-less drought dating back to the regular season. Prior to his Game 2 marker, his last goal came on March 17th against the Dallas Stars – a goal that also happened to be the game-winner. Sundin will be looking to help his team take a commanding 3-0 series lead tonight and add to his current point totals as well. In 85 career playoff games, Sundin has 75 points (36-39-75) and 72 penalty minutes

Different atmosphere today, st. louis will have their fan support now, and
we will have to fight through that, but much better than going to a rink
half empty and quiet.
I expect a similar game to the last one, st. louis will ramp up their intensity and energy, but in doing so, they might take too many penalties.
I don't expect to take this series 4 to 0 so I would think they will pull off
a win at home, but it better be this game or it might be too late.
The pressure is all on St. Louis now.

Sorry Canuck fans but I'm not a believer: there's not enough supprt for Luongo. I've seen this pattern too many times in the past couple years where they get into goaltending duels with teams that have a hard time scoring, in which Luongo is a tremendous asset and can almost win a series by himself... then they go on, meet someone who can score 2-3 goals a game and the Canucks are toast. They'll beat up the kids from St Louis, but I don't see them getting out of the 2nd round: Chicago would be their best chance and I don't know they can handle the 'Hawks either.

I just hope Washington can wake up and bounce the Rangers... :p

Talloola- you are not listening to GerryH (who probably knows more than Don Cherry:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:) The ONLY player on the Canucks team who contributes anything to the success is Luongo, so obviously everyone else is overpaid by their entire wage. I'm still trying to find the record that shows Luongo surpassing Gretzky's scoring record of 92 goals :lol::lol:

Hang on, the Canucks are a team that has just scored 2 and 3 goals respectively in the first two games. Outscoring the opposition five goals to one in two games is hardly a goaltender's duel.....More like a rout. They'll beat up the kids from St Louis, but I don't see them getting out of the 2nd round: Chicago would be their best chance and I don't know they can handle the 'Hawks either.

You sound like a disgruntled Edmonton fan. Vancouver is peaking just at the right time. Vancouver is probably a man or two short to be a serious contender for the Stanley Cup but they play with a lot of heart and they could surprise a few people.

There isn't much different in 'all' the teams, they are 'all' really good, but
a goalie can give that extra lift. There are no teams who will win the
stanley cup 'in spite' of their goalie.
It's too bad many focus too much on the goalie, and then give them all the
credit. The blocked shots by our guys, and the good defensive play while
killing a penalty should be admired. Of course the goalie is the most important
player killing penalties, but our guys give him a chance by not allowing many
shots to reach him, and also by 'getting' out of the way so he can see shots as
well, it's a hard chore, and they are doing it well. That part of our game has
been good for a long time. We did win some games in spite of luongo this
season, as he had a spotty season, and a big injury, so it was tough for him,
but thankfully he is at his best now, when it really counts.

Lunquist is doing a great job for the rangers too, and between the shots, and
the scoring chances, and the blocked shots in the last game, that number
reached over 80, so Lunquist is not doing it all by himself either. I would
want washington to win too, but if they can't get their ***t together soon,
they won't do it.
When watching a game, make a note of 'all' the players, and all the little
things that make a big difference, not just the goalie,
either good or bad.

Mats Sundin won't be in the lineup tonight, lower body injury, but St. Louis also
have a couple of players out of the lineup.
Don't know how they will juggle things, I think Yannic Hannson is in the lineup.

Philly just won which is good, don't want to see any series go less than 7 games except the ones the Canucks are playing, and double or triple overtime in each would be good too..........:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Canucks got a good win, St. Louis tried everything they had in the first period, but
came out of it with one goal, didn't do anything on a 5-3, then in the second period canucks came on, and were the better team from that point on, st. Louis
played hard, but just couldn't get it done, Andy Mcdonald is definitely their best
player, and did get a real nice goal. (Stupid Brian Burke traded him away from
anaheim cause he didn't have enough cap room to reassign Scot Neidermeyer),when
Neidermeyer sat out for half the season last year,
dumbest move, as McDonald was sadly missed on anaheim for a long time.
Matias Ohlund had a great game, and one goal. Didn't hear the 3 stars, maybe
he was first, I don't know.
Next game could end it, but if it doesn't, St. Louis has to win 4 in a row to win
the series, so that will be tough for them.
Now lets see how anaheim does with san jose, starts at 7:30

The Canucks won 3-2 against a team that had two extra players with striped shirts. I thought the refereeing was atrocious. St. Louis players were diving all over the rink. Anyway. One more win and on to the second round.

Another intense game. Luongo almost looked human but managed to hold his ground. Great penalty kill too.

Yes, very intense, he is human isn't he, sometimes I wonder. Their penalty kills
are very impressive. I forgot all about Mats Sundin, sorry Mats, but the team was
stronger without you. Don't tell him I said that.
I have to admit though, that hannson just isn't in game shape right now, and Sundin
is better in the game than him.

I agree T. They aren't missing much with Sundin out but must be hard for someone to step in at that level.

If Detroit win, and Anaheim win, they will play each other, so
if Canucks win they will play the winner between Calgary and Chicago

If Detroit win and San Jose win, and Canucks win, we will play Detroit,
and San Jose will play the winner between Calgary and Chicago

If Detroit win, and Sand Jose win but Canucks lose, Detroit will play
winner Calg and Chicago, and San Jose would play St. Louis.

It's amazing that Anaheim is now up 2 games to 0 against San Jose, watched
a little of it. San Jose peppered about 45 shots on hiller, and only scored 2 goals.
Anaheim look more confident and sharper, and when they get to Anaheim they will
really by fired up, can't see San Jose coming back in this one, but they are the
'president cup winners', they have to make some moves in this series.

Yeah, one more win would be sweet.

I'd like to see it over in 4 but G.M. place could use the revenue from a 5th game and that's what the playoffs are all about - bonus money to keep the teams from bankrupcy. Good game though, but I don't know how many of these one goal games us old codgers can stand - bloody near had a heart attack when they went down one nothing and then I almost had a stroke when they were two players short for over a minute - twice I guess. But you just weren't whislin' Dixie there Talloola when you said St Lou was good- they would be deadly against any other team.

San Jose doesn't look good. Everyone on that team needs to pick it up a notch. Lackluster efforts going on.

Everyone notice Bieksa in the dying moments of the last two games; slashing stick out hands and intentional trip. Smart plays; a little dirty. Pretty hard to score a late goal sitting on one's butt or without a stick, and worth taking a penalty for (although none called) in the last few seconds.

Although I still think St. Louis have to get at least one win in this series, now
that we have a 3-0 lead, I want Canucks to finished them off. I don't care if
they have to sit for a week waiting for the next round, don't now, let them
back into the series, as it could then drag out to 7 games, and I don't want
that at this point.
Revenue in the first round is divided between nhl and home team anyway, so I don't
care about the money made on the next game, but in the second round and
on from there, home teams keep their revenue, so, lets get it done.
It's also nice to win a series in front of your own crowd, but just ask canucks
if they want to wait and do that, and none of them would agree, just win the
next game, chop st. louis off at the knees, and get out of town.

Absolutely (clever girl that you are) they don't want to lose their momentum, we've seen that happen before and go on an eight game losing streak (and they can't afford any eight game losing streaks in the playoffs)
