Actually there are some that buy them for their humor value. Even I like reading some of the headlines sometimes. I mean jeeeez; "Woman gives birth to 8 pound pearl", "Woman gives birth to 27 year old son", "Oprah hits 246 pounds"? It beats watching the old lady in front of me digging around in her suitcase sized purse for 3 pennies to make up the exact change. :D

That's true.

Everyone of us who come here to express our opinions on this forum expect to be able to say what is on our minds. Rarely are we censured. We have a wide range of views and some have been accused of stepping over someone else's line as far as their concept of free speech is concerned.

I believe that it is this wide range and variety of opinions that make it possible to actually discern the truth from the propaganda. Although Arthur Topham is a friend of mine, I do not always agree with take on things and I do not know enough on some subjects (because I am not interested in them) to have an opinion one way or another. But, I do believe he, like every one of us on here, has a right to his opinions and to express them, if for no other reason than sometimes we need to shaken out of our comfort zones.

Complacency and indifference are our enemies, not other people's opinions.
Well Cliff, everyone of us here better watch our "free speech". I was listening to the news driving home a couple of days ago. What they said was that anyone posting on sites such as Facebook and anything like it are responsible for what they say and can be sued for their "freedom of speech" so we all might want to be a tad careful. Naming names can be a real problem. Pictures on sites like facebook can also be a real problem they say. Just be careful.

You would be surprised how many letters Andem gets from lawyers. Forum posts don't go unnoticed in the real world.

I support free speach as well but hate mongering is something else.
I agree with Colpy's viewpoint on this particular issue.

If that guy broke laws, he should be tried in a criminal court. I can't stand this reverse onus, proving innocence before a civil court, which has the power to go to the criminal courts to have writs placed against you, it's a sham.

If you don't use a lawyer, you'll likely be railroaded by the HRC and the complainant team. Then you can face fines and even jail time thereafter for making comments that some might find offensive.

I have no problem whatsoever with someone being charged criminally for inciting hate. But, you have to prove it. You have to be able to prove that someone did in fact incite hate, that they intended to incite hate, and that the incitement lead to loss of property, endangerment, or physical harm.

O my gawd! Tyr's been men-in-blacked! I bet Ron of Regina lent them his dogs. I would draught an obit if anyone wants to hold a glass to his memory.

Isn't Big Brother an American reality TV show?

There are laws that someone believes he has broken. He hasn't been found guilty, only ordered to make his case in front of the tribunal to see if the law was broken. If he so convinced that what he has written is not hate speech then what's his worry and why bother asking others to fight his battle?

Number one, The B'nai Brith can take anyone to the tribunal at no cost to them but the accused has to foot the bill for the procedure whether guilty or not. Number two, if we let them get away with this BS, then none of use are safe.

We acn all say what we think of politicians, no matter what cultural group they come from, but if they are Jewish, then all hell breaks loose. Just think, if Harper was a Jew, most people on here world be up for a tribunal lashing. If we don't fight for the rights of our fellow man, we are in danger of losing ours.

I honestly do not feel there is much difference between hateful tripe and child pornography, other than the obvious difference in media. Neither gives anything of benefit to society, but both types of laws can be abused to limit the rights of individuals.

With child pornography, there was that lawsuit against a minor who sent a pic of herself to some boys in her class: apparently minors do not own their own bodies, society does. With defamation, libel, and these hate laws, people get railroaded by powerful organizations who just want them to shut up, like that granite quarry incidence in Nova Scotia a few years back: apparently only the rich can afford free speech.

Canadian free speech:

Protests greet Bush's first speech as ex-president

''More than 100 protesters chanted "war criminal" and flung shoes in Calgary on Tuesday, angry that former U.S. President George W. Bush was in the Canadian city to give his first speech since leaving the White House.''

That's why so many Yanks love Canada!!!!

I saw the protestors against Bush's visit to Calgary- it was a crass display of ignorance- I think before people protest publicly it would help their credibility if they made sure they have ALL the facts. As long as he's a law abiding visitor while in our country he should be welcomed, not to mention his money spends as well as anyone elses. I wonder how many man/woman hours of employment he created.
