Time to make an appearance on MoPo. And he'll test as many people as it takes to find out who the baby daddy really is - even through in a bonus lie detector test!

I thought Obama made a mistake myself, until I watched it over again.

Watch the video of Obama's oath yourself:
YouTube - obama sayt the oathhttp://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=EAE6Dpgb24g

At the beginning Obama jumps the gun. ( A minor timing issue) It flusters the Chief Justice, who then messes up the next line. Obama catches the mistake and says the oath correctly up to the mistake. He then nods to the Chief Justice who realizes his mistake and gives him a chance to correct it. The Chief corrects his mistake.

Obama stated the oath correctly and is the 44th President of the USA.

If this was an omen, it bodes well for Obama...

Actually, the "myth" resulted in a lengthy story in Life magazine circa 1969/70....

Right...so many Americans "backpack" around Europe. Who the heck brings a backpack on a European vacation?

I had the opportunity to visit France, Spain, Italy, and Yugoslavia in the mid-80's. I did not get in one fight and the people were very nice to all of us.

My parents went to Germany last summer and two summers before they went on a cruise in the Mediterranean. No backpack for starters and no Canadian flag T-shirts. No beatings

In fact...because of this I asked a guy I work with who visits France every year if he wears a Canadian flag when he goes and he looked at me as if I was nuts. I asked him if he ever got beat up and he said he hadn't yet. So then I asked him if he is treated well and he said yes he is and that is why he keeps going back. He said they didn't like George Bush but liked Americans. Then he added in fun that it was probably because we tip so well.

Again...it is a myth and is only popular there in Canada to make the insecure Canadians feel good about themselves.

I hate to say it, but, hubby's aunt had an American tourist try to buy her Canadian flag patch from her. We were just discussing it over lunch the other day. Have you ever been to Paris? Most tourists carry backpacks. You walk everywhere, and you often need to carry some basics with you when you hit the tourist spots like the Eiffel tower, Versailles, the Louvre... otherwise you have to spend and arm and a leg to buy lunch there.

I'd like to qualify that statement though, by pointing out that right now we are not so popular on the world scene either. We're over in Afghanistan, and that doesn't make us any more popular than Iraq makes the Americans.

I am just not buying that it is a NECCESSITY and ALL Americans either HAVE to wear a Canada patch or they get their butts kick. I have never known one that has worn a Canadian flag. The only ones that know someone are Canadians with anecdotal stories.

I am sure those stories are HUGE in Canada... headline news... even a part of Canadian Culture and Lore.

All he had to do is repeat what the SJC said! His speech was great but the oath... I even felt uncomfortable for him.

I am not sure if he is even President as he left stuff out!

I think you'll find that that SJC person was the one who said that part of the oath wrong. Obama copied him, as he was supposed to, and so he said it wrong, too.

That was determined yesterday.

The thread has morphed beyond that.

I also find it bizarre how Americans add showbiz and glamour to politics, especially when a new President is elected.

Whenever a new Prime Minister is elected in Britain, all that happens is that crowds line the Mall and other roads in central London as the Prime Minister-elect travels to Buckingham Palace to ask permission from the Queen for him or her to be Prime Minister and to form a new government. Then he or she usually straight over to the Palace of Westminster to begin running the country, with no extravagant balls or dinners.

The inauguration is the closest thing America has to a coronation (without the history).

The British have a similar event full of pomp and ceremony when we have a new Head of State, except a coronation is more magical than an inauguration thanks to the fact that, on average, a coronation only occurs every few decades or so and is awash with so much more history and colourful uniforms.

Since 1789, the US has had 44 Heads of State. Britain has had just 9.

You are comparing apples to oranges- tenure of the Monarch is generally for life- tenure of the Presidents is set at four years- Not rocket science to figure out.

WICKED FUNNY knowing we have this to look forward to!

"REPEAT AFTER ME...No...wait...don't get ahead of yourself"

Obama's first task...

Take the Oath of Office...

FAILED
Ha ha ha... you, a republican, would rejoice in that!!

It is so understandable, the emotions must have crossed wires, but the SJC muddled it up even further!!. In another forum I read the version line for line and it showed how it got muddled, altered by the SJC.

Irony is that Obama at the time voted against the nomination of this particular Supreme Court Judge.
