Citgo pulls $100M in oil donations to Citizens Energy - BostonHerald.com

Looks like Chavez is putting the poor out into the cold! The "Free Oil" to the U.S's poor is no longer a good idea for Chavez and CITGO (Venezualen Owned Oil). Three years ago in an effort to embarrass Bush he donated 100 Million in oil to the Citizens Energy Corp. run by none other than Massachusetts favorite family "The Kennedy's".

The Joe-For-Oil Program started by Joe Kennedy (the young one...Bobby's kid) was a boon to Chavez Lovers and Massachusetts Liberals, Democrats, and Kennedy lovers. They boasted about how wonderful Chavez is and how he does not hate America and is helping our poor. But looks like Chavez's "BIG OIL" company is no different than any other BIG OIL and has cut out the poor in the middle of winter. To see people complaining that they won't be able to heat their homes and Joe Kennedy's dumb, deer in headlight look has been priceless.

So Joe Kennedy has cancelled the program.

C'mon Joe! What about your millions!? Why don't you dig into your wallett? Better yet...why don't you work hard and try to raise the funds yourself? Excuse me... I forgot... multi million dollar trust fund liberals don't work.

Thanks Chavez! Thanks Joe! The fall was worth the wait!

gloating over others' misfortune, and your own country's inability, lack of desire, to help, just doesn't seem to prove whatever point it is your post tries to make.

Kerrie's hit the nail on the head here. I guess even Americans need to do some American bashing once in a while eh? ;-)

FIRST OFF! Nice picture.

Second I am gloating over and pointing out what a hypocrit Joe Kennedy is. The guy is worth MILLIONS alone and he has just cut and run. His family could bankroll the entire operation but that would require them spending their own money. Secondly they could seek funding from other people like their elite friends but that would require hard work. Kennedy's don't do hard work. They just don't. Joe Kennedy paid himself a $500,000 salary at Citizens Energy.

OR... Joe Kennedy could go to the other Oil Companies that he shunned, shamed (and gloated over) and swallow his pride and ask for help but he won't. He is too stubborn and his ego and pride are too big. The poor just aren't worth it to him.

Third, these people aren't going to freeze. This was just a ploy for Chavez and the Liberals to thumb their nose at the Bush Administration. Joe Kennedy put his face on the program. It was a bonus handout for people who are already getting handouts.

I assure you...not ONE person will freeze in their home this year because of the lack of this program.

Now American companies can do what's right, as they should have all along. CEC has been around a lot longer than Chavez has been selling cheap oil and helps other states.

Well Joe has decided to just pack it in for the time being. I do not think you will see him walking into Exxon anytime soon looking for handouts after he bashed them. He put all his eggs in one basket as CITGO (Chavez) bankrolled 90% of the $100 million operation. To which Joe paid himself a $500,000 salary from it.

Joe wasn't the only one who petitioned Chavez for cheap oil, although it's unfortunate that CEC was so dependent on Venezuelan oil. Given that CEC has been around for over 30 years, I would guess that appeals to other companies prior to 2006 (or was it earlier) left them empty handed or unable to give in the same capcity.

But Joe did come up with an idea before he closed shop...

He urged the users of Citizens Energy Corp., the ones getting the free oil, to WRITE to Chavez and tell him how much they need the oil.

I can't make this stuff up!

Yeah Joe... that'll work!

Eagle,

This is the part you missed:

Kennedy has responded that critics should hold oil-exporting countries and other trade partners, like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Russia and China, to the same standards.
On Monday, Kennedy also called out U.S. oil companies for not taking part in his efforts to provide heating assistance to low-income households. "This shouldn't be the responsibility of another country," Kennedy said. "I don't get one barrel from one U.S. company. Not one."

So when are your Republican warmongering/warprofiteering billionaires going to set an example?

It sets a very bad example to hand out oil to lazy old people, if they had worked hard and become management types this wouldn't be happening to them. And most of them are atheists too.

Oh there is so much that I left out to be honest. You see... Joe gloated and relished over the deal with CITGO/Chavez and instead of working with US Oil Companies he hedged all his bets with the THUG Chavez. There was no need to go to US Oil Companies for oil because Chavez bankrolled the whole thing. That allowed Joe to just thumb his nose at US Oil companies and do what Kennedys have always done, smear big oil.

NOW Joe wants US Oil Companies to step in to save his failed venture... the one that he paid himself $500,000 a year to be a poster boy for. Instead of being responsible and going to them and asking for help for the people he swore to help he is acting like a spoiled brat. Typical.

CEC sounds like an interesting organization.

Corporate History

Corporate History
Beginning in 1979 with oil-trading ventures in Latin America and Africa, Citizens has used revenues from commercial enterprises to channel millions of dollars into charitable programs in the U.S. and abroad. Whether heating the homes of the elderly and the poor, lowering the cost of prescription drugs for millions of Americans, or starting solar heating projects in Jamaica and Venezuela, Citizens has created social ventures as innovative as the businesses that finance them.
Oil
Citizens Energy signed its first crude oil contract with Venezuela in November 1979. Joseph P. Kennedy II arranged storage deals with major terminal operators and contracted with hundreds of retail dealers to deliver the oil to needy Massachusetts families at 40 percent below market rates. By the end of its first 18 months of operations, Citizens Energy had acquired and delivered more than 13 million gallons of home heating oil from Venezuela to elderly and poor families in Massachusetts. In addition, Massachusetts itself purchased oil from Citizens Energy, using state and federal energy assistance funds, saving the state $4.1 million. Read More...
Natural Gas
With the nation facing alarming increases in natural gas prices in the early 1980s, Citizens Energy Corporation began exploring opportunities to enter into the natural gas market. Citizens Energy believed that the same business model used in its Oil Heat Program – the use of for-profit opportunities to drive down the price of heating oil – could be applied to the natural gas industry. Read More...
Electricity
In 1985, Citizens Energy began its electricity industry operations by buying power from utilities with surplus generating capacity, reselling the excess power to other utilities, and using the profits to help low-income families pay their electricity bills. This initial experience ultimately led Citizens to win a landmark federal decision that foreshadowed the deregulation of the electricity industry and the formation of an independent Citizens Energy electric power marketing company. Read More...
Conservation
Citizens Conservation Corporation was created in 1981 to augment Citizens Energy’s fuel assistance programs. Recognizing that the least expensive form of energy is the energy saved through conservation and efficiency, Citizens Energy saw that its subsidized home heating oil often was wasted in poorly weatherized apartments with inefficient heating systems. By providing design, engineering, and construction management services, Citizens Conservation reduced energy waste in tens of thousands of housing units and made rental housing more livable and affordable. Hugh reversed himself two days later.

He stopped the program because he's running out of money. When oil was at $147, he was running a budget deficit of 4.7%, far larger than what the US running. Now, with oil at $40, he's fracked because he's been spending like a drunken, like a drunken, well like a drunken Bolivaran revolutionary guy.

The magical money tree isn't growing money anymore and he has to cut back because paying off the barios is how he stays in power.

That's right he did. I never thought I'd see the day that Chavez bows down to a Kennedy. Looks like Joe has a little more pull than we thought.

Didn't get much of an answer on that one, did I?

Bush gave over a trillion in welfare to the corporate welfare recipients as did his father and his mentor Reagan. This being under the so called 'trickle down' theory. And, as usual, the money never trickled downward. Instead, it stayed in the pockets of the wealthy elites.

When you phrase the question as silly as you did why should you?

Bush gave over a trillion in welfare to the corporate welfare recipients as did his father and his mentor Reagan. This being under the so called 'trickle down' theory. And, as usual, the money never trickled downward. Instead, it stayed in the pockets of the wealthy elites.

Like Kerry and Kennedy... sure they did and the liberal democrat elites didn't give much back.

You're just peeved because Chavez caved into US Liberals. I thought the guy had stones. Joe Kennedy said jump and Chavez said "How high?"

Keep giving Americans free oil Chavez. Heck how much free oil is he giving Canada's "needy"? Nothing... and you guys ADORE him.

I guess he must be missing Danny Glovers hugs!

The only reason the US right wing hate Chavez is because he won't kiss their hiney. Just like every other Latin American elected official (or any other world leader) who would not cater to American interests, he has been demonized. I'm surprised the CIA hasn't assassinated him yet. I'm sure they've tried. You bozos should really get over yourselves.
