Vereya,
Are you familiar with Carlos Castaneda and his work with Don Juan? He was administered massive doses of Peyote and Jimsonweed in order to break down his social conditioning. At first he thought the drugs were what shamanism was all about, but then he came to the realization that he was so thick that it took years of these drugs so he could see through all the BS.
When I lived in Montreal I did a lot of pot, hash, LSD and such, but when I moved out into the forest, I found I didn't need it any more. Being out of the rat race and in communion with nature was such a high that drugs actually brought me down. And then I met an old Cree medicine man who took me places even LSD couldn't take me. But if I had not gone through the processes of doing those drugs and then spending seven years living in the bush, I never would have been able to follow him to those places.
I have been extremely lucky to have lived several different lives in this body and experienced stuff that most people only dream of, and although it is battered and broken, I would not trade what I have done in this life time with any other. I may not do drugs any more, but I revere them as sacred. I would not recommend their use to anybody who is not ready to make significant changes in their lives or ready to face all those skeletons in their closet.
