I wish they would quit with the coalition idea, and the NDP/Liberals merge into on party sorta like the Reform Party/Canadian Alliance and Conservatives did a while back.

I think the Liberals have gone to far to the right and the NDP would bring the party back to it's core values of being a centrist party for Canada.

I also think a merge Liberal Democrat Party would win a clear majority if an election would be held for the 5th time this year?? sorry I have lost count...

But what worries me is that our democracy has just taken a huge hit. The CBC is promoting this disaster as a popular move. The trouble is that most fascist regimes start with a popular movement. It doesn't help that our GG comes from a country wracked with this kind of trouble. I think she really doesn't understand the severity of what she has done.

Thus please explain how you are giving them money. Money is allocated per vote.

You only get one vote and it goes to one political party. The party you support is the one you pay your $1.97 for.

The only people with real reason to complain (And rightly so) are those who vote independant. But the rest of us very much did choose how to fund our parties. We don't feel like paying $5 to the bank to write a money order for under $2.

If harper had wanted to change that, maybe he should have won the election and not limped off with a 1/3rd of the vote to 2/3rds to opposing political ideologies.

Quite frankly, we need to write down the damn requirements for being PM and it should require one form a coalition if they have a minority.

But besides the point:

Please explain how you give money to the bloc or stop bringing it up everytime you think people have forgotten the claim is faulty, no one has.

I guess I'm missing part of the story here. Was there some major disagreement on a particular issue, in where the Cons were not willing to discuss and make concessions with the other parties? Perhaps Global isn't giving me the full story!

if a coalition had not been formed, the conservatives government would have fallen anyway after the first confidence vote...and we'd be back to the polls a few weeks after putting these jokers back in the House...

I see. If by chance we do have another upcoming election, I hope the left gets united, and I hope the Cons find a new leader.

If the left comes up with a crystal-clear, common sense vision for the nation, that I feel more comfortable with than the Cons, they will earn my vote.

Right now it's 6 weaks wasted than could be used to move the country forward in a positive direction.

I usually vote Liberal (in Canada), but in the last election and also after watching Layton on Lou Dobbs I decided to vote NDP, I like his message and vision.

If the NDP/Liberals formed a coalition and Michael Ignatieff was going to be PM, I would be 100% behind this, a "vote of no confidence."

The reason the NDP made gains in the last election was because Canadians dislike Dion, now they want to force this dumb bastard onto Canadians.

The NDP has betrayed those new voters and it will not be forgotten.

The NDP rushed into this and should have waited or have Layton as interim PM.
Christ anything is better than Dion... even Harper.

They probably will get a majority, considering I've given up on this damn government and it's corrupt processes, I see no reason to continue voting since it clearly does nothing, means nothing, is nothing.

Well two elections I voted in under my belt..... I guess that will do.

I guess I'll just sit by and watch the whole thing go down the crapper from the side lines and save my energy.

They say there's no point bitching and complaining about the government if you don't vote and get your voice heard, but considering my vote and my voice isn't being heard right now and probably never again so long Harper get's his way.... there's no point.

To be perfectly honest, I was actually getting interested in politics and thinking this democracy might start to finally work..... but with Harper's dumbass stunts..... with the Coalition not getting their sh*t together and the Gov. General destroying any little bit of faith I had left..... I am greatly disapointed in this whole democratic process and thus, I have given up on this country and it's identity as it currently stands.

Now I'm back to where I was in Grade 6..... hating this damn government and this country in it's inability to keep the government in check and doing its job.

Dipper government

Since I have only voted in two elections thus far and I voted both times for the NDP, I think I am a new voter in the sense and speaking for myself..... they did not betray me.

In my grand scheme of things, I saw it as the NDP being the best option, the Liberals second and the Bloc as third, even though they don't really count where I live..... which means the old Newfoundland saying still stands:

Anybody besides Harper or the Conservatives.

And no.... people didn't vote for Dion or Layton or Harper to be Prime Minister, we just voted to the guy we wanted to represent our community in the government..... the parties determine who the leader will be.

That's why the political ads claims "Vote NDP" "Vote Liberal" "Vote Conservatives" ~ Not "Vote Dion" or Layton or Harper...... they just come with the package.

Maybe it was a reason why some voted one way or another, but we do not make the decision on who becomes the Prime Minister.

If you want that kind of system, head to the US.

If I recall BC under the NDP has the best economy and no homeless on the streets of Vancouver sleeping in doorways of stores on Robson St.

20 years ago when I left Canada, Canada was rated number 1 by the United Nations as the best place in the world to live.

I think that was because Canadians actually cared about their fellow man, we were not as obnoxious or thought we were better than anyone else.

The younger generation has been Americanized by U.S. television, the Simpsons, and the attitude that we can abuse and use up all our resources without paying the consequences later.

They have become a greedy and selfish generation.

Since I have returned to Canada 3 years ago I see a changed country, where people have been sucked in by the Conservative ideology, less caring towards other cultures, races, religion and the poor.

Trickle down economy, what a farce. Guess that didn't work so well, the rich got richer and the poor even poorer, Canada's economic future in the hole... the poor and middle class has no cash to spend and 60 thousand jobs lost in Ontario.

Well, those jobs can be moved offshore to China, Mexico or Brazil for cheaper wages in the name of globalization and NAFTA. When Canadians learn to compete with wages earned in China and Mexico... those jobs will come back... don't worry.

Canada is still about as high in the world rankings as it was 20 years ago too Boomer.

As for Nafta: I hate to break it to you but as a resource economy (and lets face it out wealth is due to our vast resources) means we have to allow trade. If we protect our manufacturing they protect their resource markets and no one comes out ahead.

You may as well throw up tariffs on trading between towns to protect the local economy and see how well that works out.
