Don't any of you listen to the news or read a paper? It has to do with pensions. I don't blame them either. It's also about a two-tier system, where the new hires don't get the same wages, pensions or benefits . If any of you think that's good then lets start with the MP's pensions. Before the budget came out taxpayers portion of their pensions was $4 to their 1, now we are paying $5.50 to their 1. Now how many of you that are working have the company paying 5.50 and you only pay a 1??? Harper's going to have more problems than strikes if he continues to spend money foolishly, like $10,000 to go to hockey game, The Tory Party should have paid for that like they did back in the Mulroney era!

I'm looking to build my pension up a little more after investing in dirt. Wanna sell your silver tea set? Got any gold you want to part with?

The problem is with people thinking they have owed something for just showing up to a job they are lucky enough to have.

Most successful companies and small business dont have to negotiate "agreements" with their employees and employees dont get "agreements" when they join the company...THEY GET A JOB!!!!

Just like in everyday life, respect isnt something that is given because of time served or just because you are breathing. It is earned. If you are good at what you do, if you have skills that shine and a work ethic that goes above and beyond you will get noticed, there will be rewards (promotion, responsibilites, training, rises etc).

This works in reverse for the business too. they dont want to have to continually retrain ...if you are good at what you do they want to retain! It is beneficial to all successful companies that they have strong, smart and empowered employees. I am sorry but Unions (even if they are endevouring to have good intentions representing their flock), just have a "them and us" mentality and that will only damage or stiffle any success.....

just my 10c....

You work for free do you? I'll hire you.

I certainly dont work for free, but I can guarantee you that I take pride in everything I do at work and I get paid reasonably well for what I do (although I wouldnt lie, of course it would always be nice to get more). I always endevour to be proactive and find solutions rather than bitch, whine and complain. I strive to improve what I do and yet keep costs low. Our company empowers it's people! Heaven forbid!! And...they share the profits!! This instills a sense of worth, involvement and the belief that you arent just a number or a name, but an integral part of a success story.

Maybe if unions members consider how fortunate they are to have a job in a time when the worlds economies are in dire straits, there would be more talk of finding solutions to pensions shortfalls etc rather than striking. While I am fortunate to have a share purchase scheme that I can contribute to towards my retirement etc, there are many companies out there without pension schemes and certainly MANY small business dont provide health plans let alone pension schemes. There are always people in a far worse position than those who bitch whine and complain and yet it really offends those who stand behind all Unions do, when you point out that there are many people out there who would be glad to have the jobs these people are so intent on complaining about.....

So in other words you no idea what is going on and just felt like spewing non-sense?

Economies aren't in dire straights because of workers is it?

Are all economies in "dire straights" or are others booming, with people running to them to earn a lving while in the meantime adding to the workloads of those who haven't seen a raise in 3 years who where there during the hard times and took their pains years ago for the good of the people?

If you won't work for free can I up your workload and and tell you to kiss my ass if you want an extra nickel?

Lucky enough to have a job? What vacum do you live in? This is Canada, unemployment rates are one fiveth of the employment rate even durinf recessions. I dont need luck to have a job, when you lay me off and wish me good luck, i have the wisdom to say ' you keep it, it looks likethis company needs it more than i do'

My trip has started out nice...as always whenever I fly Air Canada. I had the only seat with a malfunctioning in-flight entertainment system, for the flight from Pearson to Vancouver....and then they screw my Timmies order up in Vancouver Int'l.

It's a conference, the 52nd Western Fish Disease workshop at the Vancouver Island Convention Center. One day of continuing education focused on bacterial kidney disease, and then two days of plenary session.

This is what we used to call a wobbly pop peeler convention. 15% Theory 85% Waaaaaaaaaasted!

Keep your Visa in the Ice-Box Ton.

I'm not paying for it...a company credit card is. The boss said no porn, I said fine. But I have an escort for the night now, a blonde Thai girl named Jade :p

Actually the first day is going to be very good. It's continuing education, there will be lots of new research, and discussions on what steps to take next. Example, bacterial kidney disease in wild salmon. We have a very good vaccine, but it hasn't been cost effective. My idea, if you had a bioscanner in some fish ladders or other narrows, you could set it to release food with a booster of the vaccine in it as fish swim buy....so long as they are eating. Ideally, the closer to the salt water. Time will tell.

Heard on the radio today that Canada Post is thinking about cutting back to three days a week as there is so little mail to deal with right now. Seems that Canadians are managing quite well without their regular mail delivery.

I never said that the economies are in dire straits because of the workers, but the unfortunate side effect of a recession is that many people get laid off as it is one of the easiest ways for companies to lower their overheads.....sounds like you have no idea what is going on to me.......

Most, if not ALL economies in the world are in bad shape right now. Granted some are far worse than others, but i would challenge you to name a first world country who's ecomony right now is "booming".........

If you won't work for free can I up your workload and and tell you to kiss my ass if you want an extra nickel?

You dont need to up my work load....I work hard, get the job done and then look for more work to get done...or see if i can help other collegues out. The more effiecient I am and my collegues are, the more profit we make and the more money ends up in my wallett.

I was in the union once...for 3 months...and NEVER again. 80% of the guys I worked with were fantastic and were good genuine people, but the other 20% "Complained" if you offered to help them do anything..."it's MY job" they would say and they would then proceed to take twice as long to do it. They would be the first people in the break room, the last out and the first to complain about ANYTHING.

There were some genuine complaints or concerns for sure, but if these individuals focused their constant negative attitude into a more positive solution minded thought process, many of these problems would have not turned into contentious and devisive issues.

I am still trying to figure out what the Union did with each employees $50 that we had deducted from our pay cheque EVERY 2 weeks! $1300 per year from each employee per year was a licence to print money and when our Union representative showed up in a nice new Jaguar that sure got a few second looks......and not having to pay that $1300 would have been a nice pay rise in itself.......

These individuals no matter how few of them there were, had the ability to sour the whole working environment

I just love bull**** stories. Far more entertaining than faeries and gnomes.

So I would imagine if you love the Bull**** stories so much, you would be one of the 20% in the break room first starting up yet another rumour to spread.

If you stop thinking everything is such a conspiracy and that all employers are out to get you, take some responsibility to find positive solutions to some of your concerns you just might enjoy your work and that big black cloud you're living under might just blow away.....

Air Canada Customer Service and Sales Staff just walked off the job.............
