Tim Hortons protest hits snag as lesbian and gay community back pastor | Holy Post | National Post

A small-town Pentecostal pastor has formed an unlikely alliance with members of the gay and transgendered community who say he is being harassed and threatened by social activists who have staged a massive protest, after he complained to a coffee shop manager that a couple he thought was a young boy and girl, but turned out to be two women, were making out in front of his children.

Reverend Eric Revie, assistant pastor at the Pentecostal Glad Tidings Community Church in Blenheim, Ont., 100 km east of Windsor, said he has no problem with gay couples showing affection in public. Instead, he said he complained because the couple, whatever their orientation, were engaged in an inappropriately heavy make out session in front of his three-year-old son at Tim Hortons.

He has drawn support from members of the local of the gay and transgendered community who say the barrage of angry emails, threatening phone calls and protests against the gay-friendly church and coffee shop are misguided and detracting from legitimate cases of homophobia in the small community.

“This has been blown way out of proportion,” said Ty Williams, a local gay man who has since met with the pastor. “The church is not homophobic and this reverend is getting threats, his kids are scared to be at their house. It is slander what this group is doing.”

Rev. Revie said he was out with a youth group and his four children, the youngest three years old, at a Tim Hortons last month when he spotted the couple on a bench outside with their tongues locked together and their hands down each other’s pants.
He just beat me to it. I would have noticed he already posted one, if I hadn't given up on having a reasoned discussion on the subject. And just posted a statement. Since everyone seemed to jump to the extreme.

What did you see?
I've heard from other patrons, on the radio. Read a statement from the manager, Tim Hortons and the Reverend.

Who just happens to be pro gay.

But feel free to base your judgment on a silly kneejerk reaction. Why change your ways now.

Does that matter?

Do/did you let your 3 year old watch people get their freak on?

Tims is known for having lots of cameras - The couple are going to the CHRC??? - Then the video can be called to show what transpired.
That is if the CHRC has the authority to issue a subpoena to TH for a copy of the video.

Reason is a company can refuse to provide unless ordered by a court. They are well within their legal rights to do so.
Their (TH Lawyer)would advise not to release unless ordered by the courts.

Many companies do this now due to the possibility of infringing on others rights etc. This became the new norm after that girl was murdered by her mother in NS a few years ago - a local convenience store turned over video - willingly to the police - Lawyers now ask for court orders.

Just the way things are nowadays.
Lastly - If they go to the CHRC Tims would also be on their menu - and they do not have any legal costs to pay - The taxpayer foots the bill for the accuser.

The Timmy's here has cameras inside, none outside. But that's because we're a small town too.

Great, thanks Goober. For the record, I hadn't formed an opinion on the issue due to the lack of details (I hate he said she said). I just found the apparent formation of one interesting enough to remark on.

What kind of asshole would feed his 3 year old Tim's?

When you're travelling with an infant (granted, less than 3), Tim's are great, because you can get an extra large cup, 1/2 full of boiling water, and warm up the kid's bottle. Most of the staff are really helpful about doing it, if you buy a coffee for yourself.

This kind of asshole would stop at Tim's to get her kids chili or soup or a sandwich. Without apology. Without concern. I can't cook at home 100% of the time, and Tim's is far from the worst fare out there.

Even during roll up the rim?

When did kissing in public become illegal?

To be fair virtually all restaurants reserve the right to refuse service. They never called the cops, so pretending it's 'illegal' because someone was asked to leave, is blowing it out of proportion from what actually happened.

they are from Windsor. Is Windsor a small town?
Another excellent example.

Many Tims form what I can recall out here have them outside - Staff safety for one -
Given the mentality of the local owner. I don't think she cars.

I'm going by what was on the radio today. I'm of the opinion, that if what has been stated so far is true. The manager was reasonable about asking them to tone it down, or take it elsewhere.

That's petros for ya, half the story and it's all over.
