Some of you are complete idiots, there is no reason, never was for American troops to be stationed in Haiti. We have the largest Haitian population out side Haiti. The U.S. has been rebuilding Haiti ever since it was devastated by 4 hurricanes, a strong American presence has always been there and probably always will be. here are many Haitian aid organizations within the U.S. that jumped into action as soon as the quake happened. As to foreign aid for Haiti, I challenge any country to give as much as United States does.

As to the Haters of the U.S. Poof

Right On, ironsides. I do agree.

I'm not so sure if the US was the first to respond. Gordon Brown was making a statement at about 2am British time last night talking about helping Haiti, the West's poorest country. But it was only a couple of hours or so that Obama announced what measures he will be taking to help.

Please notice the use of the word 'usually' in my post. I have no idea who was on the ground first and it doesn't really matter as long as countries are responding. My point is that the US has, to the best of their ability, responded to disasters in other countries.

Why would there be?. They have no oil, they aren't of strategic importance nor do they supposedly contain "WMD's". America only helps those that can repay in turn.

You are wrong. The U.S. is well-known - to those who aren't blinded by hatred or whatever is otherwise bothering them - for being a very humanitarian nation, and the list of situations where they've responded to natural disasters is something for which they can be proud.

People with attitudes like yours seem to be quite the opposite.

It's pretty sad that the only thread on this tragedy to be found on this forum is an attack on another nation. You just can't please some people, no matter what you do...

I found a blurb today; a little over a year ago the Chief of the Mines and Energy Bureau was pretty much bang on:
The question of the seismic threat to Port-au-Prince is a hot topic. It has been debated in recent days by many people, including high-ranking intellectuals. The conclusions are unanimous: PAP risks being transformed overnight into rubble after a violent quake. "For two centuries, no major earthquake has been recorded in the Haitian capital. The amount of energy accumulated along the fault runs the risk of an earthquake of 7.2 on the Richter scale. Better not even to talk about, there's no need to panic. But it would be a catastrophe," said the chief of the Bureau of Mines and Energy.
Found here.

How unfortunate, and how pathetic on the part of a few I will not name from this online community. Let's hope the aid is there in time to save as many from the rubble as possible.

Not a bad idea. Cannot get a plane to Haiti now, seems their airport control tower has been destroyed and all commercial flights are canceled .

There have been planes landing at the airport. The first aid plane from Canada landed around 5:00pm

I do thank you and let us not forget Canadians for their fast response to other countries in their time of need as well. I applaud you folks as well.
Its unfortunate that some of the countries with one hand out for aid will stab you in the back with the other.

Oh this is killing him for sure!

Expect more spam from his antiwar site.
America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

"Stand proud, America!"
