I have been in Cuba. my father and uncle have been there too as well as Colombia..

we have all personally experienced drivers from these countries.

and we have noticed one thing that stands out!

We are extremely aggressive and angry drivers.

from what we saw out there, they are very calm and mild mannered for driving and the only honking was to let the person ahead of them know they were about to pass them. it wasn't because they were angry or frustrated or IMPATIENT!

we know how that is right Drivers of America??

ya they don't have this compulsive obsessive desire to have a fancy Car.. or a fancy cell phone now that they can get them,

they've been satisfied with what they know and what they have.

in North America, ESPECIALLY the USA. there's this ongoing need for having the best things..

the best car, best phone, best TV, best clothes, best job, best House, best kids,

I can go on..

While they can't all afford them, nor do many of them have a need.

But I'd love to see your stats.

they've been satisfied with what they know and what they have.
Ya, which is why for years a pair of Levis and a box of Nestle's chocolate could get you laid 30 ways till Sunday, or a concierge that would be your personal shadow for a week or two.

It's called "Keeping up with the Jones's" and the US doesn't have a lock on it.
I can go on..
I bet you can, but you'd still be making erroneous and wild claims without support.

So what happened to comparing Cuba to North America?

why do I need support and #'s to show that North American culture and society has this need to constantly buy newer and better things?

just look in the newspapers at the advertising for all the new stuff! the new IPOD 4, the new cars coming out now! the new 3D tv's! fancy electronics that everyone MUST have!

it's been decades now that this compulsive need to always buy more and better than what we already have, yet haven't paid off yet!

USA is like the Credit Country! they all love credit!

So what happened to comparing Cuba to North America?

well how can you?

two totally different societies! they live in a world unlike ours!

they don't all have Digital TV with 200+ channels to choose from. or the latest computers! IPADS and IPODS.. Blu Ray players.. 60 inch TV's..

they live a very simple but (in many cases..) satisfying lives.

we always comment and say how Cuba is so far behind us.. much of that is because the USA feels the need to crucify a country that they no longer have power over! and of course they hate that! so punish them for taking away one of their vacation spots!

yes they do live under a Socialist govt. but they do get excellent education and health coverage.

we're just so used to growing up with all these things given to us! like TV and Cars and Phones and big awesome houses.

The cars in Cuba are old 50's Chevs and Fords and ****loads of VWs.

ya but they run fine! they don't need the latest models to be satisfied.

Because you just made the claim that Cubans aren't as materialistic as Americans. I know at least a dozen Major League Baseball players that are excellent examples of the flaw in your ascertion.

Well, I must drop everything and run out and get them. How about yourself. Why are you on line and not out spending madly trying to out do your neighbour?

it's been decades now that this compulsive need to always buy more and better than what we already have, yet haven't paid off yet!
Jobs for one. The movement of the economy for second. Apart from that, the US doesn't have a lock on it, by any stretch of the imagination.

And no other country has massive public and private debt? Wow, I must have missed something as Europe struggles through this recession.

I'll ask Ron to move this thread to "Those ignorant Americans" because that's pretty much the context you were heading for apparently.

They may not need them but they sure do want them. There is no shortage of new autos either. There are plenty of Jap and Euro made vehicles.

BUT.....Last time I was there I was ready to take a hammer and sickle to the Soviet AC in the cabana.

absolutely not.

I was just making comments about what's going on in this thread now.

to get back to my point...

Drivers in Canada and USA are very dangerous.. compared to the drivers in places like Cuba and Colombia.

and ya I see the videos and pictures.. of intersections and traffic issues. but that's not the drivers fault, that's the cities fault for poor traffic control and intersection development.

very few cities anywhere in the world have perfect traffic conditions!

there's always an intersection somewhere that was poorly designed and causes issues.
