At least you don't have a fixation on Ft Crack. With less and less quallified skill people it takes that extra $10 an hour to lure to place like Lethbridge. How many young men and women in western Canada are chomping at the bit to live and work in Lethbridge?

More than Fort Crack? My guess would be the main attraction to Fort Crack is the jobs, whereas I think there may be a chance with Lethbridge there is at least some attraction to the town.

. If you skills are in demand in places other than Ft. Crack or Lethbridge that offer far more than money, would you take $10 an hour less to live somewhere you wanted to be?

Well it is a nice place but not much for high paying industrial jobs. The meat plants and all the others like cargill also dont pay very well.
I would live in Lethbridge before Calgary or fort mac.

I gave up $25.00/hour to work close to home and be in my own bed most of the time and it's the first time since 1982 that I havent worked away from home or in another province or territory.

I love it.

Meat plants....the ones that hire Hondurans because nobody else will do that work for so little in the middle of the desert where nobody wants to be?

Somalians, the ones that have little respect for life and will stab you for a cup of tea.I used to watch them go at it with the rig pigs in the bars near Brooks.

Too much oil being exploited at once.

Not enough workers to take advantage of it.

This is unfortunately what needs to be done since we decided to morph into resource collection nation.

Feels like I'm watching an RTS play out in my own country.

There is more to it than just skills and quantity of workers. Many have the skills but lack grade 12 demanded by employers or will fail a piss test requirment so they simply won't apply.

Grade 12 for sure but the newfs will whip you up a diploma in no time if you need one.
The piss test can also be beaten, lots of them carry kits in their belt as they dont watch when your filling the cup.
The head shop on main street makes a killing on the self test kits and the belt kits.

I think sensible people would weigh ALL the benefits and detriments and perhaps look at the annual remuneration over the hourly.

What's with the fixation on Newfs? You don't think HR checks on transcripts or that carboxylic acid in piss test blockers isn't detectable?

It's about 99% easterners up there, they all sound like newfs to me.

They use clean urine, heated with one of those hand warmers and a temp strip attached to the container.
