yup it doesn't much matter what the odds are if you are the one

Which is why reactions to problems are often disproportionate to the seriousness of the problem. People have no sense of perspective and they are exceptionally self-centered.

there are heroes everywhere...look at Boston and the crowd's reaction to the bombs exploding...people ran toward people to help, medics, general public even when they were told more could go off move people now they did not, they stayed and saved lives.

Maybe it's because of where I live but honestly Corduroy, I don't see over reactions to anything just more a quiet resolve to carry on.

I guess the odds of dying in a nuclear attack are pretty slim so no sense in worrying about stopping one.

It's raisins. Not 72 virgins like the boogieman creating media likes to tell us. 72 raisins and I'll be making a nice oatmeal and raisin muffin. Oats and raisins are good for the heart ya know.

RE: the OP - it figures. (Pun intended)

On a side note, I wonder if the cops in the pic realized they were standing in an area restricted to disabled people. :D A friend of ours (paraplegic) comments to able-bodied people that take up spaces for disabled people that they must be mentally disabled. I think he has a point. lol
Seriously, those areas are for people that are mobility-impaired.

It's why EMS does it's best to keep you awake when injured. Without out you fighting for your life, they can't help you.

But "shock" feels so good!

Don't forget outright stupidity. It is the catalyst for some of these deaths.
People do all kinds of things that get themselves killed as you point out.
Some forget the natural rules of life and Mr Consequence comes down
hard. Terrorists is a greater risk when people go where they are and support
their cause by purchasing what the have to sell so we can become dependent
on them. Terrorism is a problem we have inherited from those who made a
fast buck, and did not understand the culture we were doing business with.

Life is the leading cause of death.

We assess risk based on our ability to recall recent incidents. Therefore "risk of dying in a terrorist attack" is much higher after a recent terrorist attack. But then when SARS hits, or a severe storm surge, the perceived risk of that rises at the expense of evetns that happened more distantly in the past.
