Yes and this just goes to prove the metric system IS easier to deal with: no worrying about different miles or gallons or anything else. This cuts down on math errors in things like engineering calculations because you're dealing with less variation in the constants.

The argument against metric is like someone saying we should be using old coal fired locomotives for trains instead of more efficient diesel electrics, because they work and we don't need the extra power or efficiency...

From what I could gather the main reason for us changing over to metric was because most of our trading partners in the world were on that system. That's fine, so we need a handful of people who can talk metric, but it's no excuse to tear up all the charts and tables and make every last citizen learn metric, no to mention resizing all tools etc. What's happened is instead of us being on a single system we are now straddling two systems.

So what's the issue with that? If we can deal with two different sized things called gallons, surely we can deal with quarts and litres.

I find the metric system is easy to work with.
All aircraft were metric before we 'went' metric anyway.
Cars are all metric, that doesn't seem to be an issue.

I don't grasp what the issue with the metric system is.

Somewhere, someplace
Trudeau tops the list, and Chretien in the top ten? And Robert Pickton doesn't even make the list?

I'll probably get some flak for saying this, but what the hell. Goes to show how screwed up alot of people in this country really are.

All I can say is there must be a fine line between fame and infamy. I think Wayne Gretzky was a great hockey, but I'd let it go at that. Don Cherry is possibly the loudest Canadian, but great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think of great in connection with improving people's lives or reducing suffering. Terry Fox is # one as far as I'm concerned and I'd hazard a guess that BAnting is #2, undoubtedly he's saved thousands upon thousands of lives (with help of the co-discoverer Charles Best).

..for some. For most, it has saved money and is more convenient. Are you suggesting we cater to the minority?

We were the majority when the stupid bastard pulled the switcheroo on us about 1975. For what? So we could sell rice to the Japanese? "An ounce of prevention is worth a lb. of cure"

It's change and some people don't like change.

So I have to agree with Canuuck that people just don't like change..

Most of the world was in transition including the US, who eventually backed down to peoples pressure in 1974.

Now all of the people I talk to in the US High Tech Industry say they wish they had not.

If you had grown up with metric like my kids you would not know different..

Yes I still use Imperial and have a tough time with somethings in metric.. But in others I don't even think about it and its only because I just don't make the effort in those..

Perhaps, but that would only be because the majority didn't understand it. Sometimes leaders have to make unpopular decisions if they are for the best. Mulroney's GST is another example.

The fact is very few people today have a problem with the metric system and the overwhelming majority think it was the right move. Those that disagree will be dead in a few years anyway.

And they will still be putting us 6' under or will that be 1.8288 metres? (Just to demonstrate how f*(^$%#&g stupid the system is)

Pierre Trudeau deserves to be on top of this list.

I'd put him at the top of a list all right for arrogance, pomposity, contemptuousity, superciliousness, egotistical, audacity, disdainful and for being a damned fool.

Do you think that took special talent?
Funny but Trudeau and Chretien were the only two to ever tell the Yanks where to go. Every other PM was too busy kissing their a$$es.
Truth is JLM, I was living in the forest without power and had no idea what was going on in the world in the seventies, except for a few tid bits that people felt I should know about. I really didn't like them telling me. I was blissful in my ignorance. Now I know what is going on and I think that the end of the world in 2012 would be a good thing.8O
