Aggressive deer stomps B.C. woman in her yard - British Columbia -

I live in an area where we encounter deer virtually every day. So far they've only attacked my wife's garden.
Lately there have been a number of cases where deer have become quite agressive. I will feel a bit different
about our youngest grandchildren playing in the wooded area behind our house.

You know that you've got a problem with your position on the food chain when the leaf-eaters are after you....

I know, I went out to visit a friend that was working/staying in a very exclusive part of town..........it was after dark, and about 7 deer were on the road......and they wouldn't get out of my way!!!!

Honking, yelling had little effect.

I was extremely tempted to return with a .22 pistol and instill a little respect.....while filling my freezer.

But that would have been illegal....on SO many levels. :)

You should have held a counter protest, Colpy. ;)

Colpy, if you think deer blocking your way are irritating, you should see several families of geese crossing Keneston Road, one after another, seemingly in an unending procession, here in Winnipeg.

They're pretty over-populated in NS last I heard too.... time to unload the hunting licenses and take the population down a bit more.

And the Coyotes...... and the Moose..... and the Seals..... hhmmmmm.... I think that's about it for now.

Maybe some bears.

There is plenty of of room for ALL of God's creatures....right beside the mashed potatoes.

I consider drunk people to be feral and fair game.

Be careful pissing in the bushes in the pub parking lot....you never know what's waiting in the dark for an easy meal.

Makes me wonder what's really going on. Deer are normally pretty shy and passive, even the big ones we have here on the prairies, I've never encountered one that didn't instantly run from me, they know humans are life-threatening to them. Seems a bit of a mystery what would suddenly make them aggressive. Overpopulation maybe, loss of habitat, shortage of food...? I dunno, doesn't make sense. Just wait though, pretty soon there'll be a horror movie called something like "Attack Of The Killer Fawns" featuring deer with fangs.

Accustomed to humans and to the food we provide them in our gardens, and it's fawning season.

Fawning season is the big reason. Having to fight for grazing area is another. The other is the fact that the deer living around most populated communities soon come to learn that people actually can't/won't shoot at them, and lose their fear of humans as predators.

I know it sounds cruel, but, our acreage community finally turned to paint ball guns to reinstill some fear.

Colpy I don't know if this is legel or not but when I last found myself in a similar predicament, I put the car in gear and eased
the vehicle forward and very gently gave the deer that were in my way a little push. All of the deer left their roadblock almost immediately.

I think at least part of this problem is these well-meaning people who feed the deer.

It's mule deer. They never were very bright and are assholes espeially when people fear coyotes they will take advantage of the canine free zones.

With everyone all sketched out and paranoid, at least we don't have to dodge kids playing shinny anymore.

Deer are not the sharpest creatures around. I don't know how many times I've seen deer wait beside an empty road
and as soon as there is traffic coming they will dash across the road.. The best you can do is slow down in those
areas where deer are a problem.
