... except that Republicans liked when Bush did it and have not been so nice about it when Obama approved of the plan.

That is how it works in politics, Gopher. Your side is the side of God, the other side is the side of the Devil, and most politicians work that way.

Bush claimed to have a direct hotline to God; he claimed to speak to God every day. Republicans of course believe him, to them, he was a direct emissary from God, one step below a Prophet. So if he proposed a stimulus package, obviously it was God inspired, so they supported it.

Obama on the other hand, is an illegal alien, a Muslim terrorist, a spawn of the Devil. So his stimulus package was obviously inspired by the Devil, a ruse to ruin the best country in the world (according to Republican beliefs, God loves USA more than he loves any other country). So his stimulus package had to be opposed.

It is politics as usual.

Perhaps he should have answered my question: how is Solomon so wise and so qualified to talk about moral depravity when he had so many wives, concubines, and mistresses???

Now now, Gopher, you know better than that. When has that stopped any politician from telling others how to live their lives?

How many examples of hypocrites are there in the current politics? Newt Gingrich, Rush ‘drug addict’ Limbaugh, Larry ‘wide stance’ Craig, Mark Sanford, I probably could fill a whole page with the names of politicians who have pontificated on how others should live their lives, while they disregard their own advice.

Bible is based upon hypocrisy anyway (that is why so many of right wing extremists turn out to be hypocrites), so why not Solomon?

Ultimate truth will never be revealed, because there isn’t one.

I am very surprised to see a statement like that from you of all people. You are probably the most aggressive poster on here, asserting what you believe to be the truth and now you are telling us there is no truth. Ya better rethink that one S.J.

I have never claimed that what I know is the truth, JLM. What I describe are my opinions only. Now, I am very opinioned and put forth my views in a strong, forthright manner, so it may have given you the impression that I claim to know the ultimate truth.

But none of us have a monopoly on truth, the ultimate truth is unknowable (another way of saying it is that it doesn’t’ exist).

"A true God is an oxymoron."

Where is that carved in stone?

No stone. But if you believe all gods are false gods then a true god is an oxymoron. What is a god? That means different things to different people but in general it is about a supreme being who is involved with human affair. It is rather an ego trip, but if you understand egotism, it is more about insecurity than anything else. So humans created the gods in their own image to pump up their self esteem. I'm sure if there is a supreme being and it is even aware that humans exist, it is having no end of amusement over this silliness.

Cliffy, I remember a dialog from a sci fi story.

“Doesn’t the Bible say that man created God in his own image?”

Usually it s quoted the other way round, but it is true.

Does not human growth include adjusting one's opinions from time to time or have you already reached your full stature? You just come across to me as one who has finished learning.

That may apply to new issues that arise, JLM. However on settled issues such as abortion, contraception, homosexuality, there is very little that is new and in general one’s views are set by the time one reaches my age (59)..

I have you beat by 7 years and none of the issues you have mentioned are carved in stone (in my mind). I doubt if the prevailing wisdom will be the same in another 20 years on any of them. The world is always changing and to survive in it, the denizens have to change.

Lot certainly did.
LOL Wrong again, you should actually look something up before you post it. You appear smarter and it saves me having to post the correct version. Lot's daughters got him drunk and the seduced him. The reason is they thought they were the last people left alive.
No words about the royals in Europe today as being so selective in their breeding habits that inbreeds are a normality rather than an exception. The same ones that can have some people have the proper title of 'Sir'.
The Royals of Saudi Arabia have more than one wife these days, while not being Christian nobody makes a big deal about it publicly. True there is hypocrisy, but it would seem it is in todays world and not back in Solomon's time when a man could have as many wives as he could support. That is the fastest way to build up a population rather than the view here that would tend to focus solely on the carnal act of fathering children as being the prime reason for having so many wives. So blind you cannot even see that aspect. You don't even have a clue as to what would happen to those women should they not be able to find a man to marry.

The posters coming from cancom are more like dark-agers, full of words but very little in factual truths in the matters they address. lol

And you would be an expert in that. All you ever quote is fiction and try to pass it off as truth.
Gopher is not from CanCom, he is American. You also need to get your facts straight.

The prevailing wisdom has been the same on theses issues for the past 20 years. Of course nobody can predict the future, but I don’t see any development that will result in any significant change. For instance I don’t see Canada banning all abortions in 20 years (by declaring fetus a human being at conception and making abortion tantamount to cold blooded, first degree murder), or declaring homosexuality a capital offense and locking up gays for ten years in prison.

Or for that matter, banning the use of contraception. The debate has been over on these issues in Canada for many years now. In USA, of course, anything is possible.

Duh, which version is written in Scripture, Lot seduced them or they seduced lot?
Where do you think the story of Lot came from? LOL

Why do you think I was saying Gopher was from cancom, I was addressing you and a few others. (that is the reason for the two spaces between the two comments).
I wasn't aware that cancom wouldn't let American's post there. LMAO

It's fable borrowed from much older texts, probably Sumerian, just like the flood fable and the guy who started all this gibberish, Abraham..

Well maybe I made a mistake and maybe you weren't too clear. There were the odd Yanks on there.
