U.S. all but certain to miss weekend deadline to include Canada in three-way NAFTA deal

U.S. Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer said negotiators facing a self-imposed Sept. 30 deadline are sort of running out of time to include Canada in a new North American trade deal.

If the remaining gaps cannot be bridged in the next few days, the administration will request congressional approval of a deal with Mexico only, he said.

Quebec and Ontario are 65% of the Canadian population though
(25% & 40% respectively). The irony is that 100% of the automotive
industry is also found in these same two provinces that Trump is
threatening to clobber Canada with in an extortion-like negotiation
method like the mafia would use.

It's a telling tale about the thuggish character of the current US
leader. We in Canada know we have a trust fund dud for our PM,
but I (in all honesty) had higher hopes for Donald Trump. I thought
he would come in with the mind of a true businessman instead of
this spoiled vindictive man-child.

Trump is just "testing the waters" He won't cut off his nose to spite his face...………….he's crazy but not stupid! :)

I doubt that he has two clues about what he is doing. He doesn't read, research or listen to advice. He also doesn't "get" that if he wants to make a deal with Canadians, trying to scare us like little children will yield the opposite result (except in the surrender monkey Okanagan Valley, it would seem).

Mexico might be the only trading partner the US will have in the world once the coming implosion stops.
The US military is now focused to a greater extent on tensions with China and Russia, according to a Wall Street Journal report, citing senior military officials.

The United States is pulling some of its anti-aircraft and missile batteries out of the Middle East, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing senior US military staffers. The removal will reportedly be conducted next month.
As many as four Patriot missile systems will be withdrawn from Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, the edition stated, adding that the step essentially marks a shift of attention away from the long-lasting military confrontations in the Middle East and Afghanistan, towards soured relations with China and Russia, and subsequently to meet nascent threats from there.
The report stated the systems had already been deactivated, with the dismantling slated for October.
The US Central Command has refused to comment on the matter, the WSJ noted.

I guess that China is his bigliest trade foe and we're way down the list (at Number 2)
Seems that China and CDA don't flatter Trump enough........and prefer to do business in a business like manner. Trump is making it personal. His poor ego was so slighted when Trudeau said CDA would not be pushed around....... and that is sticking in his craw. .....amongst other things.

The Mexicans seem to be sufficiently compliant. Either that of they're more masterful at playing Trump.

Why is everyone obsessing over Trump and Nafta? I say f**K them both, we should get the hell out of there! In a week or so Trump will come slithering up with his tail between his legs, quite willing to talk sensibly and if he doesn't we can always shut the power off to California!
