The US has unilaterally, and illegally invaded a sovereign nation, on false pretenses...

The US has engaged in torture, and it has been suggested by many influential people that the lack of regard for Human Rights that resulted in those tortures goes right to the top...

NAFTA and the predatory trade practices of the US has cost Canadians more than any Liberal corruption schemes put together...

The economy in the US will most likely tank in the next few years do to their imperialistic ambitions, and that will hurt everyone...

As to who I'd rather have as a superpower...well I'm not keen on stepping on anyone's neck, so I'd rather that there wasn't any superpowers in the world at all...and the sooner the US falls from their lofty perch, the sooner this world can be rebuilt properly...with no country claiming supremacy...

I have the freedom of choice to make my own decisions, and with this goes the responsibility of dealing with the consequences of making my own decisions.

I do not have a greedy soul. Although I have not mentioned this on a forum yet, I have a nephew that has Cystic Fibrosis, and I give very generously to CF in the hopes that he will live past 25 or 30 years old. So if you want to call me greedy, go ahead, I could really give a rats ass what you think of me. The only thing I know is that if my nephew does not make it, I can look at his mother (my sister) in the eyes and know that I have done all that I could have done. Your opinion of me relative to this is so inconsequential as to be like a gnat on an elephant.

You should read other papers and books then Vanni.

There have been several academic papers in economics written on the benefits of NAFTA. But it wasn't the saviour of the Canadian economy. Canada has a fairly dynamic economy, and it wouldn't have collapsed without NAFTA. However, it clearly is working demonstrated by how much trade has increased since its inception, 99.9% it hassle-free.

I also don't buy that NAFTA is integrating the two countries much faster than it would have had the deal not been signed. The two countries have become more similar to each other over the past 100 years because of technology. The march of technology would have continued regardless of NAFTA.

But as long as Canadians want to differentiate themselves, Canada always will. I go across the border a fair amount and I'm always struck by the strength of Canadian nationalism. Canadians believe that Americans are more overtly patriotic, and that may be true, but not by as much most would think.
