Without proportional voting, pipeline backlash could hit Liberals hard in 2019
Poring over polling data from the plush confines of the Prime Minister’s Office, Liberal strategists could be forgiven for underestimating the troubles looming in the far reaches of their electoral empire.
Justin Trudeau, when not posing for the cover of Rolling Stone, has settled into a regimen of fundraisers and photo-ops that keep his approval ratings comfortably high. Ask voters for their top-of-mind issue and you’re more likely to hear about household finances than pipelines or proportional representation.
But it’s the betrayal of those two promises – to respect First Nations consent on Kinder Morgan, and change the way Canadians vote – that could break even a popular Prime Minister’s parliamentary majority.
Here’s how.

We'll eventually get prop rep - but only if the Libs figure that they are not going to get an outright win. But I think the writer may be right, however, it will depend a lot on who the NDP come up with for their new leader. I'm not a big fan of Scheer. Too me he lacks charisma, and that is what modern elections seem to be all about.

So when you face losing, you will change the rules.
How typically Lieberal of you.

Policy, morality, and making decisions to improve the country mean nothing.
our National Election is now being run as a high school popularity contest.
Brilliant.

Irrespective of our political differences I believe Bar's post is just a statement of fact. PR is the refuge of the Sore Losers' Parties, which can encompass all political stripes. FPTP didn't work out so well for the libs under Martin, so why not try for change, until it does work for JT, then, well, just leave well enough alone. I can only trust that any government that tries to invoke PR will screw it up so royally that we will end up with successive incompetent governments, just like Italy, for all time.

No argument here.

BC tried twice to get some kind of PR. Didn't pass either time. The one they opted for was Single Transferable Vote which left everyone wondering exactly who their representative would be. SOmehow the concept of people on the island having their MLAliving in Kamloops just didn't jive.
