Whom precisely are we trying to help in Afghanistan?

I read what I posted a few times just to see what you mean and I still don't see how I got close to saying the war in Afghanistan is a War for Oil.
The only post I read of yours that mentioned those two things was that it was over something other than oil, in that oil-pipelines or
whatever was an absolute zero factor.

The real reason the U.S. is in Afghanistan is to gain access to Caspian oil. I don't know why Canada is there. Moral support???

The Real Reason the United States is in Afghanistan (by Stephanie Kirmer) - Media Monitors Network

You have to pity those who do not understand. Both countries (Canada and China) are overexcitedly leaping aboard the latest oilrush pipedream. Luckily, the United States will be spared embarassment, due to the measured advice from it's lawmakers and the oil industry.

It's all about oil shale. Every barrell of the oily sludge pumped from these sandy underground strata can be turned into half a barrell of oil. And the USA is sitting on enough oil shale to rival the Middle East -up to 1.9 trillion barrels.

Juan we have oil. Oil is not the reason for being in Afghanistan.

If you have oil of your own then I wish to hell you would use it rather than make wars over other people's oil. Chances are that oil shale is as filthy to process as the tar sands are. The first thing the U.S. put guards on after invading Iraq was the oil ministry.

Yeah ... the point was wasted in the interpretation....

Now ... had I asked about the use of an explosive fail-safe device in a discussion of 911, you would be all over the thought like I'm insisting Holograms planted charges in some massed conspiracy.

Sound familiar?

No probs.

Well I never accused you of the hologram thing as I never heard you subscribe to that theory. But hey... there are enough 9/11 threads about for you to weigh in on and get and take your licks.

We don't.

You mean we didn't guard anything else first? That was the VERY FIRST THING that we guarded. Of ALL of Iraq in all of those days...no guards were placed ANYWHERE.

Or...

Did the US Guard the Oil Ministry as they did with other buildings (but not all buildings).

We also hit the Oil Ministry building with a bomb.

Nonsense to both your statements. Figure it out.

Resources are not why we are there, possibly the strategic location of Afghanistan would be a better reason. We did not make this war, but we will finish it.

I guess that's why you import most of your oil and we export ours :-?

I have figured out that you don't know what you're talking about. You figure out why the big oil companies aren't into oil shale with both feet. I know.

I read in the National Geographic it was the mujahideen (aka Taliban) we were helping in the Big A.
Along Afghanistan's War-torn Frontier - National Geographic Magazine
The opening paragraph-
Quote:
"I WILL NEVER KNOW THIS WOMAN'S NAME. Among Afghan villagers it is the custom for women not to tell their names to strangers. On this cold November night she is busily preparing food for the six mujahidin, Afghan freedom fighters, who have escorted me across the Pakistani border to Afghanistan’s embattled Paktia Province and into this small village in the Jaji region."

Since people far more knowledgable than you have come out to say the war is "unwinnable", I'll take your comments once more as so much sorry tripe

If you didn't make this war, who the hell did? I'm guessing that the same party started the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. I wonder who that was.
