HALIFAX — A Halifax bus mechanic who allegedly created a poisonous work environment by terrorizing his co-workers with racial slurs and harassment no longer works for the transit service.
City spokesman Nick Ritcey says Arthur Maddox is no longer with Halifax Transit but he declined to discuss how or why he left his position, citing “confidential personnel matters.”
Maddox’s tenure with the transit service, which started in 1988 and included a brief termination in 2001, ended after a Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission board of inquiry decision found his workplace behaviour to be “disrespectful, aggressive and racist.”
Lynn Connors, independent board chairwoman, said in her decision released publicly on Tuesday that Maddox bullied his co-workers and intimidated them into silence.
She said the irony did not escape her that Maddox continued to be employed with Halifax Transit while his victims had all left in part due to his behaviour and the “poisoned work environment” he created.
The allegations against Maddox and his small entourage included a message scrawled on the men’s bathroom wall, which said “all minorities not welcome; show you care, burn a cross.” It was signed by “a member of the Baby Hitler.”
In another instance, the white bus mechanic who lodged the rights complaint arrived at a social event with his African Nova Scotian wife to hear Maddox allegedly say loudly: “We don’t want those kind of people here.”
Maddox is also quoted as saying “racism should be a law that you can shoot somebody and get away with it.”
After he allegedly threatened a black mechanic with physical violence, Maddox was fired in 2001.
However, he filed a grievance through the union and was reinstated a year later. The city would later say that “its hands were tied” by a sunset clause in the collective agreement
Maddox allegedly blamed the complainant for his dismissal and tried to hit him with a bus, according to the rights decision. The complainant reported the incident to the maintenance yard supervisor, but it was not investigated and Maddox was not disciplined.
Connors said Maddox “took an opportunity to frighten” the complainant and was “trying to terrorize” him.
She said Halifax is “vicariously liable” for the actions of its workers and that it did not do enough to curb inappropriate behaviour.
Jacques Dube, chief administrative officer for the municipality, issued an apology Tuesday to the complainant and his family. He said the city is committed to a harassment-free workplace where all people are treated with dignity and respect.
A hearing is set for Monday to discuss the awarding of damages or assignment of mandated training.
The complaint regarding racism and harassment at the transit yard was filed with the provincial human rights commission nearly 12 years ago, in July 2006.
Equity Watch, a Halifax-based group dedicated to employment equity, is calling for an independent public inquiry into what it calls a long-standing pattern of bullying, harassment and discrimination at the municipality.
The group points to other examples of racism and sexism at the city, including the case of firefighter Liane Tessier. She faced systemic gender discrimination, but her concerns were ignored by the municipality and dismissed by the provincial human rights commission before she eventually received an apology last December.
Earlier this month, a group of African Nova Scotian city employees demanded action on a confidential report from two years ago that found racism in the workplace. Raymond Sheppard, a spokesman for the group, told reporters that “the anti-black racism and discrimination within HRM is at 1950s levels.”
“We believe that these cases are only the tip of the iceberg,” Equity Watch spokesperson Judy Haiven, a retired management professor at Saint Mary’s University, said in a statement.
“Apologies, payouts and promises, and claims to want to do better don’t cut it any more. The residents of HRM and equity-seeking groups have a right to know what’s really going on and how we’re going to solve this systemic problem.”
The group is calling for an independent public inquiry outside of the human rights commission, with its “dilatory, bureaucratic and uncaring approach,” Haiven said.

A little kid is stabbed by his crazed mother- why is it that LIE-bereals continue to IGNORE these people?
Oh sure- our wicked LIE-beral Wynne-bag has offered up some more money for mental health issues- but it is the usual bait and switch CRAP that LIE-berals LOVE!!!!!
WE have only to think of Richard Kashcar- the guy who killed a Toronto cop with a stolen snow plow!
Kashcar was in and out of mental health facilities for years. The voices in his head would get loud and disturbing and he would seek treatment- he would be stabilized and then wander back to the community with no way to get more drugs and no monitoring of any sort- just an endless cycle of infrequent treatment and trouble- till he finally snapped and stole the plow and killed the cop!
Mental health treatment is USELESS if provided in such a patchwork fashion! WE have sen this many times!
People do something crazy that gets them arrested committed for treatment and then they do like Kashcar- they get bored and wander off as they are legally entitled to do- and they RE-OFFEND and the cycle starts again!
Some people NEED to be FORCED to accept treatment- and there must be some sort of monitoring system in place that will alloow doctors to take crazy people off the street for forced treatment!
It takes a committee of doctors to give you permission to kill yourself under the new assisted suicide law so why cannot doctors be allowed to force crazy people to accept medical treatment that saves lives?
Parents are not allowed to deny a sick child medical treatment and the kid is deemed not capable of making such a choice- so why do LIE-berals allow crazy people with the same LACK legal responsibility of a small child to decide what is best for them?
It looks as if LIE-berals are so focussed on their gravy that they have decided it is easier to let people DIE screaming rather than spend THEIR PRECIOUS GRAVY!

Peel District School Board is investigating a teacher for “anti-black racism” after photos of students were posted to social media.
“Hi @PeelSchools, please be informed that a grade school teacher with your district is 1) openly mocking her students’ appearance and posting photos of them on social media 2) tagging the location of the school on her Instagram, putting them in danger,” a Twitter user tweeted on Saturday.
The board replied that they were conducting an investigation.
“I can confirm this is under investigation by the superintendent of the school and being addressed swiftly. We thank @giaper for bringing it to our attention,” the board tweeted Saturday night.
The board also tweeted: “I can assure you it’s being investigated as anti-Black racism and being taken seriously.”
Spokesman Carla Pereira said Monday that the staff member is an occasional teacher and has been assigned to home during the investigation.
“Assigned to home means she cannot access any assignments (pick up any absences) for the board and cannot contact staff or students while she is home,” Pereira said.
“We don’t yet know how long the investigation will take or what the outcome will be, as we’re just getting started, but want to assure our community that this matter is being taken very seriously by senior leadership of the Peel board.”
The teacher and the school were not named.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — A lawyer for a black Detroit-area woman says Target employees falsely accused her of stealing a bikini and forced her to expose parts of her body.
Attorney Jasmine Rand said Monday 20-year-old Ashanae Davis was shopping at a Target May 22 in Southfield. A security worker grabbed her arm, another handcuffed her and she was walked to a room, where she was told to lift her shirt and pull down her pants.
Rand says employees in the room were a white man, black man and white female manager. No bikini was found.
Minneapolis-based Target issued a statement that didn’t dispute the allegations. It says it fired one employee and is working with the store.
Rand says one firing was insufficient. She says other black women with similar complaints have contacted her firm.

A man who took a sickening selfie is being scrutinized in Italy.
The selfish image became front page news in southern Europe last week after a news photographer captured a photo of an egotistical man snapping a selfie in front of a bloodied Canadian woman on May 26 after she’d reportedly been hit by a train at Piacenze station, near Milan.
A local newspaper ran Giorgio A. Lambri’s photo.
The petulant picture was captured by Giorgio A. Lambri, a journalist with Liberta di Piacenze newspaper, shortly after the 83-year-old woman was struck by the train.
The BBC reported the elderly Canadian’s injuries were so severe she needed to have one of her legs amputated.
Dismayed by what he’d witnessed, Lambri took to Twitter over the weekend to lament society “completely losing ethical sense.”
A local publication ran the image below a headline that referred to the selfie-taker’s actions as barbaric.
“The barbarism you don’t expect: the ‘selfie’ in front of a tragedy,” it read.
Authorities reportedly forced the man to delete the disturbing image.

She once characterized the infamous tweet by BLM co-founder Yusra Khogali asking Allah not to allow her to cuss/kill white men as just an “angry reaction” to the “trauma she experiences from everyday racism, misogyny, and Islamophobia.”
NDP Beaches-East York candidate Rima Berns-McGown,
Nutty U of T prof and NDP candidate in Beaches-East York, Rima Berns-McGown — who was born in Apartheid South Africa and raised as a Jew in Canada — wrote a few years ago after a visit back to South Africa that she’d always known she is “black.”
(So this a person who brings a MASSIVE sense of injustice from a foreign country and is quite happy to slap it onto Cdns who have been open minded enough to allow her to become a U of T professor! We should all be so oppressed- with such a nice salary and working conditions as well!)
If she is indeed Jewish, she keeps some pretty strange company. She submitted a piece for Professor Michael Keefer’s book “Antisemitism Real and Imagined.” Keefer, a University of Guelph professor emeritus, is a known anti-Israel activist.
(Is it not fascinating how many professors are radicals- as Jordan Peterson has pointed out repeatedly as he warned about the crazies indoctrinating our kids!)
Her now deleted Twitter feed refers to Israeli’s efforts to defend itself from Hamas in Gaza as “state terrorism” and indicates the actions of the hateful Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel are needed more than ever. At one point, she refers to the late Rob Ford as a “homophobic and racist jackass.”
(Well I would be happy to call Rob Ford and drunk and a drug addict but there IS ample proof that he WAS a good defender of the ordinary tax payer! But racist and homophobic labels are SLURS! And it is remarkable how many of these radicals believe Israel has NO RIGHT to defend its people on any terms!)
This, folks, is but one example of the kind of quality candidates who are running for Andrea Horwath’s NDP — the same party which had a resolution supporting the hateful BDS movement on the agenda of its April 2017 conference.
(So the entire party was considering coming out as anti Jew and then retracted the hateful bigotry for fear of losing votes and gravy when exposed! Such courage! But how brave will they be if they do get elected? Will the bigotry resurface? And how many Cdns want to be represented by radical Haters really?)
That motion, which was put forward by the Niagara Centre provincial riding association, quickly disappeared after being outed by the Toronto Sun.
(Several LIE-beral politicians faced heat for advertising in Muslim magazines out that way- after it was pointed out what sort of hateful propaganda crap was also in the magazines. LIE-berals temporarily withdrew their support and Muslims got an explanation of what not to say in front of white people- no need not to think it or say it among other Muslims- just don’t upset the white people!)
However, Berns-McGown isn’t the only Israel critic running for the NDP. There are three more.
(WE may guess these are the most outspoken ones but how many other are sitting on the fence testing the political winds- like wannabe bullies testing potential opposition to their urge to be hateful? That Horvath refuses to condemn them speaks volumes! That federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has made noises in support of Muslims is also telling! And Jags brother- the lawyer sees nothing wrong with slagging ALL cops! And NDPers shouted “Me TOO” when Our idiot Boy Justin raged at the jury verdict in the Coulton Boushie shooting! NDPers and their LIE-beral allies demonstrate their belief that “whites are always WRONG”! NDPers encouraged Justin to RIG jury selection in favour of drunken native THIEVES like Boushie and his pals!)
Jan Johnstone, a public school board vice-chairman based in Kincardine who is running in Huron-Bruce, was repeatedly part of a Twitter thread in the summer of 2014 condemning Israel for defending itself against repeated terrorist attacks from Gaza during the 50-day war.
At one point she tweets in response to a question: “NDP supports an end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian land” and is named in remarks such as “Everybody is afraid of israel and the Zionists…time for TM (former NDP leader Thomas Mulcair) to abandon Zionist colonialism.”
(IN other words there will NOT be that United Nations two state dream solution if NDP gets its way- Jews will be expected to either get out of a Palestinian state or shut up and accept second class political NON status behind Muslim women!)
Like her sister in solidarity, Berns-McGown, Johnstone also supported a May 14 statement from NDP federal leader Jagmeet Singh claiming that Israelis fired on unarmed Palestinians and the resulting death toll is “horrific” — a statement sources in the Jewish community have called “anti-Semitic and full of factual errors.”
(Is it not odd that Palestinian freedom fighters can send endless waves of rockets and suicide bombers randomly all over Israel- but a Jewish response to that crap is ALWAYS judged by radicals as Zionist state terror!)
NDP Wellington-Bruce Candidate Diane Ballantyne
Secondary school teacher Diane Ballantyne, who is running in Wellington-Bruce, was rejected from the federal nomination race in 2015 for her “public stand supporting the human rights of Palestinian people,” according to a Liberal posting online.
(Arabs INSIST there will be no peace until Israel grants “rthe right of return” meaning Arabs can simply move in among Jews- and thus totally negate any security measures put in place to separate fighters from civilians!)
In a letter to the editor of another media in 2011, she wrote the following: “The Israeli government has been flagrantly violating international law for over half a century, and continues to violate the Geneva Conventions in its treatment of the Palestinian people.. this is an outrage.”
Joel Harden, the NDP candidate in Ottawa Centre and a researcher for the far left Canadian Federation of Students, has taken a very public stance against Israel and the NDP’s approach to Israel — meaning he thinks the opposition should be much stronger.
As recently as May 14, he tweeted: “The death toll today in Gaza is outrageous and heartbreaking, as Israel uses lethal force against unarmed protestors … I stopped by today’s rally to show my support for the Palestinian people.”
(Maybe somebody should say something about how Hamas terrorists HIDE amongst the unarmed civilians and use them as military SHIELDS?)
He made it pretty clear on Twitter he was opposed to the naming of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. He also defended Nora Loreto, the crazy leftist who was hounded for her mean-spirited comments about the Humboldt hockey players who died in April’s tragic bus crash.
None of the candidates named responded to e-mailed and requests by phone for comment.
(Well no wonder! Bullies do not like to be confronted! But is it not poisonously wrong that so many of these bigots should have any connection to the education system? We know from other reports that opinion on school grounds and campuses has become very polarized with anti Israel sentiment predominating- thanks to very selective LIE-beral immigration policy! Maybe we do not want such bigots running our govt as well as our schools? The inside of the card reads: “You’re a wonderful husband and father — and I’m so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy! Happy Father’s Day.”
American Greetings says the front page communicated “an unintentional meaning that is out-of-touch and offensive.” Communications director Patrice Molnar says the company is adding steps to its product review process “to ensure cards like this are not created.”
Retailer Target saw the discussion on social media and asked American Greetings to remove the card from 900 stores where it was available. Spokesman Joshua Thomas says it was never the company’s intent to offend.

They can see that a caricature is a strong exaggeration - but they CANNOT see that a stereotype must have a core of truth in it or it does not fit!
Something like 70 percent of vall black kids are living in single parent families these days!
That is more than double the number of white kids in such a situation!
WE all know tjhat white kids are more likely to finish high school than black kids.
WE all know that black kids tedn to struggle more and drop out of college and university more often than white kids.
In short- the home life of black kids more often poisons their future prospects than is standard with white kids.
And it does not help that LIE-beral are encouraging black people to look away from their own faults and blame all on "systemic racists"!

BALTIMORE — A Dunkin’ Donuts shop in Baltimore is no longer offering customers coupons if they report workers shouting in foreign languages to management.
The Baltimore Sun reports the sign in the store on West 41st Street was removed after it created a stir on social media.
A photo of the sign was posted Monday on Twitter by a displeased customer. It read: “If you hear any of our staff SHOUTING in a language other than ENGLISH Please call … immediately with the name of the employee to receive a coupon for FREE Coffee and a pastry.”
In a statement, Dunkin’ Donuts said a general manager of the shop posted the sign “based on her personal judgment.” The franchise owner thought the sign was inappropriate and had it removed.
