Let me dumb it down for you. The South Eastern Alberta Watershed Alliance (as one example) has one seat on their board of directors that is reserved for somebody of aboriginal heritage. The implication is that A) aboriginal people have different wants and needs as everybody less and B) everybody else is incapable of looking after those needs. This view is shared by Cliffy. Fluffy isn't a bad guy. His hearts in the right place but his thinking perpetuates the myth that aboriginal people are inherently different....aka...racist. If you hold that belief, it's pretty hard to argue (logically) against somebody that doesn't want to hire a black sheriff because he can't meet the wants and needs of white townsfolk.

Aboriginal people in Canada have a legally different status. Their land rights, and rights to use the land, are different. It makes sense that this unique group should have a representative at the table on matters like that.

It is not the same as a black person being the chief of police in a mostly white town, since criminal law applies exactly the same to everyone.

I agree with you philosophically. But in this case it's just fitting in with an overall pattern of racism that pervades every aspect of Canadian (and American) law as regards natives, so it ain't a big surprise.

The absurdity of your accusations were not worth responding to. Aboriginal people have a different culture and world view that is thousands of years old and the dominant culture see it as backwards and tries to impose their culture and world view on them. That is not racism but it might be culturalism.
