A White House effort to undermine conservative critics is generating a backlash on Capitol Hill — and not just from Republicans.
“It’s a mistake,” said Rep. Jason Altmire, a moderate Democrat from western Pennsylvania. “I think it’s beneath the White House to get into a tit for tat with news organizations.”
Altmire was talking about the Obama administration’s efforts to undercut Fox News. But he said his remarks applied just the same to White House efforts to marginalize the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a powerful business lobby targeted for its opposition to climate change legislation.
“There’s no reason to gratuitously piss off all those companies,” added another Democrat, Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia. “The Chamber isn’t an opponent.”

White House and "Faux" news face off

And white house forced to back down:lol:
What is the White House’s Fox News End Game?

Excerpt:
This week, President Obama said Fox News was “operating basically like talk radio.” Missing that millions of Americans listen to and trust “talk radio,” this was meant as another jab at Fox’s credibility. Jake Tapper of ABC News courageously questioned Robert Gibbs on the White House anti-Fox policy. And now yesterday, the White House decided to try and ban Fox News from a briefing with Obama’s Pay Czar Kenneth Feinberg. Entering into potentially unconstitutional territory, the White House press office did not expect what came next. The White House press corp united against this behavior and demanded Fox is included, or nobody goes. The White House relented. So the question today is, what is the White House end game here?

MORE

Maybe the press corps don't want history to repeat itself?????

Ok, I will be the first to say it. Some of you say Obama has only been in office for 10+ months, give him a chance. Do you realize that in that time he has already tried pulling a Chavez on us. Censoring the media is wrong no matter which way you think. It has been 10 months to long.

Nobody had any difficulty with or complained about Bush's freezing out of MSNBC, or with his decision to ignore senior correspondent Helen Thomas (for which she was canned by her employer).

So why all the protests now?

When Bush and Rove stacked the news room with colloborators like gay male prostitute Jeff Gannon, again, where were all the protests?

Why does the far right continue to have these double standards?

Hey Gopher,
What is the difference between Beck/Limbaugh and Olberman and Maddow? They are all trash talkers who are hired to be shock jocks. Conservative or Liberal they are all a waste of time for those who choose to determine what is news and what is not on their own. Not with White House guidance. Also, what is the REAL TRUTH and what is not. But the Bush era did have their own take on things too so what is the difference between now and then?

The big difference is that Olbermann and Maddow invite people they don't agree with into their show and allow them to talk.

Limbaugh and Beck do not.

HUGE difference.

The Stucco House (mostly white with green 7-UP & blue Milk Of Magnesia crushed bottle chips) doesn't like FOX News either.

Fox is the best!

Glenn Beck is a bit of a showman, but he's no fool. He's one of several popular conservatives revealing the truth being hidden by the liberal media. He's a patriot on a mission to save the good old USA from rebellious hippies turned tyrants. People like Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, Ingraham, Levin, and Steyn are true patriots. They're attempting to educate us as well as entertain us to keep us from drifting off in a cloud of boredom. I admire these people for their sincere attempt to save my once-great country.

Currently, the USA is far off the road our forefathers paved for us. We're in the woods without a compass. Spending is out of control by a massive, power hungry government that desperately needs to be streamlined. Our representatives are still welcoming illegal aliens with open arms as unemployment nears 10%. Why? Are we competing with China and India in a population race? Taxes and borrowing will keep going up and up to finance this growing mess. You might say we're fighting a losing battle. The truth is, most of us are too stupid to know to fight it! This is sheer insanity! As long as the clueless masses keep reelecting the traitors who put us in this mess, we'll continue to spiral downward as a nation and end up poorer than friggin' Bangladesh!

Make no mistake about it. The US Constitution is under assault by Obama's gang of Chicago thugs and left wing dingbats like Pelosi and Reid. The bigger government becomes, the more dangerous it becomes. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are attempting to make so many people dependent on government, it'll assure the Democrats of one party rule. That's a scary thought!

I'll tell you what Fox and other conservative talking heads either haven't discovered or are afraid to reveal: Political parties are dangerous! As an elected representative of the people, it should be illegal to belong to a political party. It should be illegal for any representative to have enough power to punish another representative with an opposing opinion. It should also be illegal to attempt to bribe a member of congress. That's exactly what lobbyists and special interest groups do. Strict rules to keep elected officials in line should have been implemented perhaps a century ago. We blew that one big time! Elected officials are supposed to represent the people in their districts, not some corporation or a few select individuals or groups with enough money to corrupt them. They know we know they're corrupt and they believe we'll still vote for them. We've got to get rid of them and keep them out! Most of them belong in jail, not some fancy office financed by the taxpayers!

Beck and Limbaugh are smart enough to realize that arguing with liberals on their shows would irritate their huge audiences to no end. What conservative wants to hear what the enemy has to say? We know where they stand on the issues and wish they would just pack up and move to Russia or China. This is the USA, not the USSA!

Limbaugh and Beck are just in it for the money, they could just as easily apply their endless diatribes to be for the Democrats and against the Republicans,if America sinks far enough watch these two and their ilk abandon their precious country and take all their money to some remote Caribbean island where they would all sit around on a beach laughing about how much crap they fed the American people and the amazing number of people who actually believed it.And how much money they made at doing it.

Does anyone else here think that writing in dark oversize fonts is the equivalent of Shouting?

If the media lie to get ratings or to sway public opinion they should be charged with libel, slander or otherwise. That is censorship no matter how you look at it, so your statement is just wrong.

When two individuals own almost all of the news sources in a nation and editorializes the journalists, that too is censorship. If I was a king who owned all of the businesses in a land, would it be censorship if I banned papers from saying bad things about me? If not, then China doesn't censor anybody, which is patently absurd.

The most serious censorship in the media today happens at the hands of the editors. Not the government. This whole issue is a farce.

After spending eight years of left wing copy /paste articles, starting with missing chads and on and on through the years, in every forum I've been in over the years... It's nice to get the "complaint" ball and more so to have left make enough mistakes to get to throw it over and over and over again

No, they are just afraid that having someone with a brain on their show would cost them viewers. Most of the republicans are like junior. Their IQ is lower than their shirt size. If Limbaugh said Martians have landed on earth a sizable portion of his audience would believe it.
Not sure how you can have a name like freethinker and be a conservative. Those are diametrically opposed words.

Um... what?

I really cannot decipher what you are trying to say. I think I need to drink more coffee.
