What a joke this will make me giggle when I am sleeping......
This poll conducted on here is indicative that the majority of forum participants are Conservative voters. Nothing but self serving facts............Come Monday we may see the unfolding of Harpers demise.

SG I don't know how much of a joke this is but it sure is causing a serious issue to the economy.. As much as I am not happy with all parties we must realize the issue was created by those who were in power, hence Harper and Co.

Now they are talking about suspending Parliament till January 2009 and in reality putting our economy on hold. If everyone is so "Concerned" about this crisis, people would put aside political motive and move forward to get the economy moving again.

My fear is that even if the coalition backs down that Harper and Co will do nothing as they had planned in the mini budget.

Where did all the concern about companies going under and job losses disapper too after the election from the Conservative side ?

The road to the unknown

Actually the Tories are about to fight with themselves. They could forstall some of this if they dump Harper, not the finance minister. You are right about the West at the moment, but the heavy vote in the east and central Canada will override the west. Secondly, the coalition will not oppose each other in various ridings and if the LIberals and NDP don't run candidates in ridings they don't currently have the Tories will get wiped out there. Six weeks is a long time in politics and the majority is not 80% for the Tories in the west either. In many cases even conservatives are starting to understand Harper brought this on himself and unfortunately, took the entire party to disaster. I believe there are two groups
mainstream conservatives, and social conservatives and the latter is the problem.
The Tories will pay one hell of a price, especially when the hidden agenda is added to the silly antics of this Prime Minister, people will not trust Harper today, tomorrow or next year.

The Liberals will soon have a majority anyway. Since Martin the liberals have been in the electorates penalty box, and the time is about up. People are not trusting of the Conservatives or the NDP for any length of time, and they will soon return to the Liberals. In the west doesn't matter, the Atlantic and Central Canada will
not support a federal Tory majority. In the west the problem is, that much of the
conservative support is from social conservatives. This leads to ideology over logic in terms of political maneuvering. I am not saying thatconservatives are not logical, just that social belief systems with regard to religion interfere with
governing. To this end the conservative and reform issues are competing and will
eventually bring down the right wing movement. If the Tories had a genuine
conservative party without the reform element this whole political crisis would not
be happening

It is difficult to say who will come out ahead (assuming Cons lose power and coalition forms the government). I can see scenarios where Cons could return with a majority at next election, I can also see scenario where Liberals (or Lib – NDP coalition) return with a majority next election.

It will all depend upon how well the coalition governs, what happens to the economy during the coalition government etc. The fate of coalition partners will depend upon how well the govern. If they do a terrible job of governing or fall apart in a few months, all three coalition partners will be diminished.

However, one thing is clear. If Conservative government falls, Harper is history, he is gone as the leader of Cons, they will pick a new leader. That of course will be a big unknown. If they pick a leader in the mold of Stockwell Day, we are looking at Liberal majority next time around. On the other hand, if they pick a red Tory (especially from Ontario or Maritimes), he will give Liberals a good fight in Ontario and Cons may well get a majority.

There are just too many unknowns to speculate who will benefit form the coalition government.

"However, one thing is clear. If Conservative government falls, Harper is history"- THAT I can totally agree with, although I'm only luke warm as far as Harper goes he lacks the ability to reach out to all people. A smart politician at least starts out by trying to include everybody. (Which I don't see in Dion or Layton either).

In a Coalition government, the NDP are now on the same footing as the Liberals and Bloc, that means they can now effectively enact their propositions more easily, Since without their support the government will collapse. This is the biggest oppurtunity the NDP has recieved in recent memory, they can do alot of things they never could have done before.

I think this will create a real uproar in the West where the conservatives have a clear majority and the Bloc is viewed as traitors

Did it create "an uproar" in Central Canada where they Cons did not have a majority or is petty bitterness unique to western Canada?

Didn't it? Aren't we looking at a coalition of anything but Conservative?

This coalition could change everything, we could see the beginning of the Liberal Democratic Party. The other side of the coin is this party will not get a majority either and the Bloc is the king maker for either the Libs or the Cons.
We won't see a majority for anyone any time soon, Bloc hold the balance either way
