My first job during the summers while in high school and after high school on a full time basis....

....was teaching many sports in community centers. It's great to have more time
than schools ever do unless they are working with a school team for competition...
but regular kids do well once they "get it" and often the schools don't have time to find out what kid does what well.....

I can't participate in many sports now - or my time is limited because of a lung problem, but I'm still an avid fan and prefer live events, but am grateful for the television coverage especially on weekends in places I will never see....and athletes
I will never be able to cheer for in person.

I wish humans could settle things with competitive sports....

Football ("sacker"), cricket, rugby, snooker and darts.

I did watch some of the Superbowl a few weeks ago and I had no idea what was going on. It was completely alien to me. And it was so slow.

He has a point, though poker more gambling to me than a sport.
It's a game. Not all games are sports and not all sports are games. They also put news on sports channels, is news a sport, too? Is checkers a sport? Tiddlywinks? Hopscotch? Monopoly? Gomoku?

ever been on a 'real' hike Anna? Usually takes all day,
and consists of at least 20 miles or more.
Some do it 'all' the time, it is a sport, puts one in
top condition.
I think it's a recreation, not a sport. My longest hike so far has been from Golden Ears park through Manning park to Cathedral park. It took a couple weeks. Sometimes we go on long-weekend hikes (2 or 3 days) and that hiking includes rock climbing and stuff. I run 6 miles 3 or 4 times a week. We also snowshoe in the winter. :)

I hope it's only temporary and a short-termed temporary at that.

I wish humans could settle things with competitive sports....
Or even a game of chess or something. Boxing, if one feels violent.

Thanks for your words on my lung thing..... they thought it was worse than it has turned out to be but my life is pretty limited.... I'm happy I still am alive and just
limited in how much physical activity I am handle especially in sports.

I've found some fun in teaching some of my friend's children how to play a sport they wanted to take up.... that's fun too.

I've found less active things to get into trouble over haha....

I'm an NFL and CFL fan.

A a good horse race. Love the triple crown events when there is a triple crown threat. Kind of like the whole circus atmosphere around those races.

Golf, particularly the majors.

Don't mind a good UFC match every now and then.

Love billiards. I can watch world 9-ball or snooker all day long.

ARGH!!! Army defeats Syracuse in the 1st round of the NCAA lacrosse tournament by a score of 9-8 in double OT. This is a stunning upset as the Orangemen were expected to win by a comfortable margin. But they were flatter that Twiggy's chest today and stunk up brutally. Unfortunately, they did not have a good senior leader who would have taken the initiative in scoring and firing up his teammates. The world of college lacrosse will long remember this major upset.

In my opinion any of the land sports where one travels
many miles, either hiking, or jogging, cycling, roller
blading, etc, and do it in a way that creates good fitness,
it is a sport, but if done in a way that is just recreational, then it is recreational, where no timing is
involved, and speed and fitness isn't a factor, just a fun
outing.

The people around me who have done these sports, do it in
a very serious way, and the condition they are in is one
of a serious athlete, nothing recreational about that.

Depends on the effort put forth.

Hockey can be played in a recreational way as well as a
fast competative one, and is a sport either way.

Each to his own, people can haggle back and forth for
hours, I'll just use my own ideas on what is a sport
or a recreation.
